I worked at Volvo Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

My main focus was to perform AM (Autonomous Maintenance) audits and coaching so I had to work with blue collars on floor. I think that it gave me unique opportunities to hear from the workers' voices and helped me understand how the facility ran under certain management. The people there were quite nice.

    Cons

It is a pretty old manufacturing facility. Some of the bad habits of workers were still carried from decades ago. Some of the supervisors seemed incompetent for their jobs. However, the upper management are working on transforming the atmosphere to a better one.

    Advice to Management

    ~ Hear more from workers.
~ Need a better rewards and punishment system.

    Pros

    Pros

Great sense of family with a strong brand identity. Lots of opportunity and flexibility for employees. Interesting global business with good opportunity to travel and involve yourself in many projects.

    Cons

Too political and inwardly focused. There is an obvious ceiling in the company if your not Swedish and with competing products in the same markets, the group can and does cannibalize itself often

    Advice to Management

Simplify the systems and reduce global management, they don't add value to the plants or the bottom line

I have been working at Volvo Group (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits can't be beat. The work life balance is usually pretty good. I can't go anywhere else and get comparable benefits.

    Cons

We have been going through a re-organization for well over 3 years. The stability that we used to have seems to have all but disappeared. Employees don't know from one day to the next if they are targeted for layoff or downsizing, as well as if their boss is their boss tomorrow. Things are changing constantly. Also, most "global" positions favor hiring Swedes, even if they aren't the best candidate.

    Advice to Management

Decide on a strategy and move forward. The constant changes are causing good resources to leave and if we don't allow one decision to mature we never know if there is any value before someone decides to do something else.

I have been working at Volvo Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good company to work for. The Volvo brand is reliable. Flexible work and a good family atmosphere.

    Cons

Not paid enough for multiple jobs performed. Family owned dealer. Performance evaluations not performed to make sure that you are on track to grow with the company

    Advice to Management

Make sure to evaluate and reward your employees if they are doing a good job. Needs to be more growth within company.

I have been working at Volvo Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Volvo is a good and recognized brand, multicultural, good products, good benefits, life-balance, nice people, good processes. It is a great experiência.

    Cons

Last 2 years were no good. No travels, no education, no promotion. Unclear the criteria for growing. Managers prefer promoting other managers instead promoting new good people. They are outsourcing the IT... For who are from IT...unfortunately is time to leave...

    Advice to Management

Take a look in the new talents... You choose always the same. ..

I worked at Volvo Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company atmosphere overall is very friendly, casual, and absolutely allows the employees great work-life balance.

    Cons

The salary that was offered was well below the market average, the quarterly bonuses that were promised were never delivered and the pay raises as well as the opportunity for advancement are literally non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Take a strong look at the directors and other higher-level management employees you sustain within your company. They skim the fat off the top and deliver nothing substantial within the organization they are supposedly managing and overseeing. The director that oversaw my division was completely incompetent and unprofessional. I have never seen such a negative dynamic such as the one this individual projected onto his team. Take time to truly recognize those of us who offer more than just a title to your organization. Look at the quality of our input, experience, and dedication to the company. Re-evaluate the higher-level management employees and look at what contributions they are truly offering your company.

I have been working at Volvo Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice place to get an internship experience, very helpful people, very professional

    Cons

not hiring full time until mid 2015. don't expect to get full time position after your internship. If you have any other offer that will hire you full time after internship go for that.

    Advice to Management

    good work

I worked at Volvo Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good treatment of co-ops/interns. Got to do a fair amount of hands-on and actual engineering work as compared to what I have heard about similar internships at other companies

    Cons

No full time hiring taking place at the time of my co-op
