I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    there really ain't none ..

    Cons

If you enjoy standing around for 9 hours a day with no water, zero customers, dressed like the amish, and being micro managed by five different people on the floor and camera room then this is the job for you! Management has no respect for any associates and is more concerned about employees following stupid rules like not walking on the carpet then their counters actually generating revenue.

    Advice to Management

tell them to learn what manners are and what respect for other people is then fire all of them

I worked at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-1 hour lunch break It's hard to find any pros for this company other than the 1 hour lunch break, which you need to escape most of the time. One weekend off a month, and time and a half on Sundays, which they end up cutting away anyways by cutting your hours the next week, so it's not even a pro, but worth mentioning.

    Cons

-management does not give you ANY information on time. Had an event last weekend? Oh yeah sorry we forgot to tell you! -They will expect you to pick up the slack that your coworkers do not do.. and they will not tell you "thank you" once. -no advertising done on the companies part whatsoever. Most customers I helped in my time span of 2 years had never even heard of Von Maur. -Very high, unrealistic goals when the...

    Advice to Management

A bad boss can take a good staff and destroy it, causing the best employees to flee and the remainder to lose all motivation. Remember that.

I have been working at Von Maur full-time

    Pros

Time and a half on Sundays.

    Cons

Policies are outdated, store is extremely slow, we have to harass customers over the phone to get them to come in, other retailers allow you to text or email customers. The dresscode is outdated. We are always short staffed, if I'm covering another department how am I going to make my makeup counter goal if I'm never at my counter? Being one minute late weighs the same as being an hour late which is ridiculous. Managers...

I worked at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Getting paid time and 1/2 every Sunday you had to work. Also most major holidays we were closed. Brittany was a great Manager at the Lombard, Illinois store.

    Cons

Like most retailers, staying open until 9 doesn't make any since.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you pay attention to a good employee and reward them.

I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The other hourly employees became some of my BESTFRIENDS, decent hourly pay, 20% off everything in the store except vintage handbags.

    Cons

I worked in cosmetics and I have to say, I have never worked in such a hostile environment! We were fully staffed and had maybe 3 customers a day, so everyone was always tripping over each other to get the customer. And because Von Maur doesn't get a lot of business its BORING and you have extremely high sales goals that you will never make. But in your first 90 days of working there you will get written up for any missed...

    Advice to Management

Be slightly more lenient with sales goals for new employees in their first 90 days. The reason I left was because I had 2 write ups in the first 90 days (not consecutively) for missing a sales goal by 5$ an hour, then by 3$ an hour. That is ridiculous and I am appalled. I did everything I could to bring in customers and Von Maur will not meet you half way by advertising. Raise your commission higher than 1%, if hourly...

    I worked at Von Maur

    Pros

No crazy holiday hours, time and a half on Sunday and holidays off plus one weekend a month. Not a bad schedule for retail. My co-workers were amazing. That being said, we mainly bonded over how horrible it was to work there...

    Cons

Where do I start..... In the cosmetics department, there were ridiculously unrealistic goals for just about everything. From sales to these god awful "events" that we had to keep coming up with and booking. Essentially they wanted us to treat every single weekend like an event. They expected us to have appointments booked and thousands of dollars in sales for the day. We had to constantly be harassing customers on the...

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who actually manage and help their teams. Not just straight out of college girls and people who sit in their office all day. That way you won't have good managers quit the job on the spot in a flood of tears. Stop giving department managers sales goals. Their job is to manage and develop their team not to tear them down. And please for the love of god ENOUGH with these freaking events! Do you want to know...
