I have been working at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Executive Management works with your best interests in mind, from the moment you interview.

    Cons

A super strict dress code. The first 30-45 day attendance policy is insanely strict.

    Advice to Management

At my store, I have none...they are fantastic.

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

In 1887 females could be fired for wearing pants, you can enjoy this same mentality toward women today in 2019 at von maur

    Cons

Lack of diversity, oppressive, have to have a doctor note in order to drink water

    Advice to Management

    Treat women as equals

I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Co workers were very nice people, and also miserable.

    Cons

Extremely incompetent floor manager. People with decades of experience are silenced and treated like children. Very negative and toxic management who literally look at you as though you are garbage. I had to laugh at store management who sit together at their “reserved” table in employee lunchroom and proceed to whisper to each other for an hour. BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL especially for a store that is supposedly all about...

I worked at Von Maur full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pros are you get to meet a lot of amazing clients

    Cons

everything. I’m a transgender black woman and I felt so horrible and targeted when I worked there.

    Advice to Management

Help your employees feel comfortable about themselves. Know that when it’s slow in the store it’s because people are shopping in Nordstrom and Macy’s because the workers actually look like they work in a store that sells trendy things. Change the layouts and carpets. Looks like a bon-ton herbergers inside. Ew.

I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Off on holidays, time and a half on Sundays, no long holiday hours

    Cons

Limited Sundays for department managers, no support from Cosmetics Account Executives, not allowed to attend basic training and sales meetings with cosmetics lines, not enough stock or gifts during gift with purchase, working up to 10-12 days straight with no off days.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you are all on the same page when it comes to rules and policies. Allow Cosmetics department associates to attend training and speak to Account Executives. Do not set unrealistic sales goals for new stores. Do not lie to candidates when they apply about what positions are available.

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice working environment, managers are friendly and always accessible, decent starting wage

    Cons

One minute late and you can be terminated. Commission structure is low compared to other retailers.

    Advice to Management

Have a window of time available for clocking in. The time clock is across the store from the employee entrance, so in order not to be one minute late, you must be at the store 15 minutes before your shift starts.

I worked at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Von Maur has a very clean and friendly environment to work in. It is always well lit, there is a live pianist playing most days and there is a certain old world charm about it. You receive time and a half for working Sundays and everyone is given one weekend off a month, and all full timers are given two weekends off a month after being their for a year, which helped with work life balance a lot. It was a slow paced...

    Cons

Cosmetics was the department with the biggest yearly goal, so the pressure was definitely felt. They would try to compensate for slow daily business by having frequent events throughout the year, most of which were not really planned that well. For the events, they typically required us to have a certain appointment goal per counter or individually per beauty advisor. Getting appointments was like pulling teeth, as...

    Advice to Management

Take the hiring process more seriously, there were too many people who were hired who did not care and did not last. It would help the numbers and the business to have people who are serious about their work be hired and stay there to foster those relationships with the clients. Also, stop taking the customers word for it every time they say something negative. The employees are much more loyal than them. Also I think...

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They made it sound so great. Once there, not so much but they do provide a variety of options when it comes to fashion. Nothing you're unable to find at Saks or Nordstroms.

    Cons

Favoritism. There's no room for a different opinion or point of view. Upper management will intimidate you into positions you have no interest in and will use your health conditions against you.

    Advice to Management

Ask employees about upper management and their style of management. This should be looked at very closely.

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice environment. Friendly work environment. Great co-workers.

    Cons

No advertising so how are you supposed to get new customers in the door? They expect you to harass the same client list constantly.

    Advice to Management

Start advertising on TV, radio, and print. You are not known outside the Midwest so you can't operate the same way.

I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is pretty good, nicest bathrooms in the mall, nice selection of merchandise.

    Cons

The "Rookie DM training" is a joke. This is what all new department managers and counter managers go through. Its not about how to run a business, but instead about the basics of customer service, and things a manger obviously should know already. The department managers act as bullies, that don't actually have anything to do besides watch you work and gossip. Department and counter managers cannot change the schedule,...

    Advice to Management

Get your act together and stop treating your employees like dirt, and stop gossiping. Also a real clientele system on the POS would be a valuable tool. Also, actual management training.
