I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    there really ain't none ..

    Cons

If you enjoy standing around for 9 hours a day with no water, zero customers, dressed like the amish, and being micro managed by five different people on the floor and camera room then this is the job for you! Management has no respect for any associates and is more concerned about employees following stupid rules like not walking on the carpet then their counters actually generating revenue.

    Advice to Management

tell them to learn what manners are and what respect for other people is then fire all of them

I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Decent hours, I guess? Benefits are OK.

    Cons

Super strict. 1 minute late is late. Women must wear dresses, with no visible tattoos or piercings. And don't even think about using the employee discount, because if they think you've abused it (even if you haven't) you'll be fired immediately with no benefit of doubt and no opportunity to defend yourself. They'll simply reiterate that it's at-will employment and they don't need a reason to fire you. Their discount is...

I worked at Von Maur part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-coworkers -holidays off -gratis( certain departments) -Sunday’s time and a half pay -pay was decently okay -nice incentives sometimes we could win fragrance testers, or cash, or past gifts -creativity -management was always kind to me -sense of teamwork and a coworker always having your back in a situation -taught me about professionalism in the work place -punctuality matters(I like that) -during store events,...

    Cons

-management does let a lot of things fall behind, when they shouldn’t -not equal work, ever -strict dress code - a lot of stress during holiday time for little reward -constant standing -short staffed frequently -get ready to work every weekend, except one(that you most likely did not get to choose, either) -for awhile I did the job of a manager but did not get any of the benefits a manager would, and was never recognized...

    Advice to Management

Do a better job recognizing your good loyal employees and reward them, it will mean a lot. Even if it’s a “keep up the good work!”. And please, figure out a new system for weekends off, it’s not fair. You don’t like it, we don’t like it. Fix it. Also, please never take away creativity from employees, it means a lot when you hear our ideas and validate them. Also, never lose your personal Von Maur touch, it’s special....

I have been working at Von Maur

    Pros

Work with schedule, easy to get hired, not an extremely hectic place, get a decent amount of tardies, absences, etc. management is fairly nice. Contests, gratis is not great from venders but Von maur does what they can to give gratis.

    Cons

You don’t get training, people call out leaving you to be over worked, continuously asked to cover other departments even departments that you have never worked in, if you act like you don’t want to cover then you are told you are not a “team player” department managers can be very two faced. There is sort of a chance to move up if you want. But some people they will promote very quickly and others they tell you that...

    Advice to Management

Pay more. You will have happier employees. Continue to work with peoples schedules I love that. Very good at listening to both sides. Stop overworking cosmetics and asking them to cover departments like shoes, it makes no sense and causes the employees to look and feel stupid because they don’t know what’s going on. Stop with the “team player” crap also about covering. You wouldn’t want to not get paid for doing extra...

I worked at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Co workers were very nice people, and also miserable.

    Cons

Extremely incompetent floor manager. People with decades of experience are silenced and treated like children. Very negative and toxic management who literally look at you as though you are garbage. I had to laugh at store management who sit together at their “reserved” table in employee lunchroom and proceed to whisper to each other for an hour. BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL especially for a store that is supposedly all about...
