I worked at Von Maur part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-coworkers -holidays off -gratis( certain departments) -Sunday’s time and a half pay -pay was decently okay -nice incentives sometimes we could win fragrance testers, or cash, or past gifts -creativity -management was always kind to me -sense of teamwork and a coworker always having your back in a situation -taught me about professionalism in the work place -punctuality matters(I like that) -during store events,...

    Cons

-management does let a lot of things fall behind, when they shouldn’t -not equal work, ever -strict dress code - a lot of stress during holiday time for little reward -constant standing -short staffed frequently -get ready to work every weekend, except one(that you most likely did not get to choose, either) -for awhile I did the job of a manager but did not get any of the benefits a manager would, and was never recognized...

    Advice to Management

Do a better job recognizing your good loyal employees and reward them, it will mean a lot. Even if it’s a “keep up the good work!”. And please, figure out a new system for weekends off, it’s not fair. You don’t like it, we don’t like it. Fix it. Also, please never take away creativity from employees, it means a lot when you hear our ideas and validate them. Also, never lose your personal Von Maur touch, it’s special....

I have been working at Von Maur

    Pros

Work with schedule, easy to get hired, not an extremely hectic place, get a decent amount of tardies, absences, etc. management is fairly nice. Contests, gratis is not great from venders but Von maur does what they can to give gratis.

    Cons

You don’t get training, people call out leaving you to be over worked, continuously asked to cover other departments even departments that you have never worked in, if you act like you don’t want to cover then you are told you are not a “team player” department managers can be very two faced. There is sort of a chance to move up if you want. But some people they will promote...

    Advice to Management

Pay more. You will have happier employees. Continue to work with peoples schedules I love that. Very good at listening to both sides. Stop overworking cosmetics and asking them to cover departments like shoes, it makes no sense and causes the employees to look and feel stupid because they don’t know what’s going on. Stop with the “team player” crap also about covering. You wouldn’t want to not get paid for doing extra...

    Pros

Time and half on Sunday Holidays off Co workers

    Cons

Pressure to make sales Constant threats to be fired or written up for not making the sales Competitive atmosphere caused by department managers Upper management always sides with department managers and never deals with the real problems within the department No appreciation for your time or work there Favoritism Closing nights followed...

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Promotes from within, no extended hours during the holidays, closed on national holidays, time and a half on Sundays

    Cons

Sr management is inexperienced and doesn’t allow department managers to hold their sales associates accountable. Women’s dress code, women are required to wear a dress or skirt even if it looks more trashy than classy. Attendance policy, micromanagers, lack of diversity, continuous deviations from “Von Maur” standards to allow favoritism. Although Von Maur promotes from within,...

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Members of management are approachable Flexible scheduling Clean and respectable environment

    Cons

Compensation is horrible for the amount of work, especially for starting Department Managers (ex. as a DM you start at $12, but you're responsible for department maintenance, merchandising, keeping record and analyzing sales, and so much more!) No grace period in regards to clocking in. (ex. you can clock in seven minutes before your shift, but one minute after your scheduled...

    Advice to Management

Please understand that employees should be valued and well compensated. I have seen too many hard working individuals walk away from this job due to pay and overall set up of the company.

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - vacation hours are given every 3 months - certain departments managers are nice

    Cons

    - minimum pay went up and we are still at $11 bucks per hour for newcomers - only gets 35 hours when you request for 40. will not give extra hours except for christmas. have mouths to feed - floor management is delusional. both floor managers are condensing and good people are leaving left and right - floor manager uses camera to watch you and call you on the phone when they micromanage - lunch break are not full...

    Advice to Management

grow up. i understand you are in your late 20s but this is not high school or college. floor management needs to be reviewed more closely. they also need to communicate with each other - morale of the store is lacking

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You meet a lot of cool coworkers. 2 weekends off a month once you have been working here a year. Easy growth, as long as you stay with the company there is growth, qaulified or not.

    Cons

The cons definetly outweight the pros at Von Maur. There are no customers but are shoving unrealistacally high sales goals down your throat. The dress code is ridiculously outdated. Women can finally just now wear no pantyhose/tights. Upper management is not only racist, but underqualified as well. Why is my store manager 27 years old with no expierence? They undermind everything we (department...

I have been working at Von Maur part-time

    Pros

Great selection of merchandise attractively displayed Stocking, gift boxing, vacuuming, markdowns, opening store accounts, locating merchandise from other VM stores, filling merchandise requests for other stores , maintaining (high) sales quotas, etc...you will do it all. Most senior managers are helpful and great to work with. Regular clientele that appreciates quality service

    Cons

Erratic # of work hours and schedule - anywhere from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.+ Good number of 20-something department managers - not necessarily a con, but can generate unnecessary drama at times Slow registers Rigid attendance policy- you are late if even by one minute both clocking in for a shift and returning from a lunch break.

    Advice to Management

be able to substantiate feedback with details, give sales associates the ability to access their daily sales numbers (greater transparency), compensate associates for opening up store charges, use Saturday morning meeting time for more product/store knowledge

I worked at Von Maur full-time

    Pros

Store discount, education of retail/brands, great employees.

    Cons

They think it’s cool to hire 21 year olds as department managers because of “seniority”. On your feet all day, assanine dress code.

    Advice to Management

Actually get to know your employees. HR lady, the women who actually hired me didn’t even know who I was. Change the dress code, it’s 2018, women shouldn’t be forced to wear pants.

I have been working at Von Maur part-time

    Pros

You make some commission, the hours are good, not open super late like most department stores and you get all the major holidays off. The store managers are helpful and friendly - willing to accommodate your needs.

    Cons

Some department managers kind of skimp out on doing things, like closing duties and leave the associates to deal with it while they leave early. There is a major pay discrepancy. A colleague of mine said she made a lot more than I did and sometimes they didn't adjust pay rates in a timely manner on employee checks.

    Advice to Management

Don't only check in with the department managers once in a while to make sure they are doing a good job, but also check with the associates of their departments.
