I worked at Voorhees College (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I tremendously enjoyed working and interacting with the students. As a member of the IT team I had the privilege of working with the Department of Energy Cyber Security program with my student interns. This gave students who were interested in working with the Federal Governments's cyber security program an opportunity to work with some of the best minds in the government. Voorhees College gave me an opportunity to start and grow in the IT field.

    Cons

The school is located in a very rural area of South Carolina. If you are not used to the country live this can be a drastic change. Also, the pay is pretty low for information technology individuals.

Working at Voorhees College has molded me to become better person all around. Knowing that what I do affect the students around me made the job that much easier and enjoyable as I was a student-assistant with the women's basketball team.

    Cons

No downsides while working with Voorhees College.

    Pros

You and your children are able to attend college for free.

    Cons

Good ideas are shoved to the backburner if they do not come from certain individuals.

    Advice to Management

Be fair across the board. Good ideas come from everywhere. Be receptive to them before you continue to lose good employees.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

    Pros

-Gives recent college graduates an opportunity
    -Working at a college

    Cons

-The community has no regard for the institution
-With the exception of maybe 3 people, the president's executive board is ran by a group of Inadequate and incompetent individuals who look out for themselves.
-The needs of the students are placed on the back-burner
    -The pay is below average
-Degree from here carries no weight; school is not competitive at all
-It's unfortunate but this school will probably not be around in 3 years

    Advice to Management

With better leadership and more community involvement, Voorhees College has the potential to attract better quality individuals.

I have been working at Voorhees College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You have time for yourself. Your not always being micromanaged by everyone. Working here allows you the benefit to do and learn more than most truly professional work places.

    Cons

Not up with the times. Not so good working conditions, buildings need to be overhauled. Raises are not give here no matter how long you have be working in your position or how well you do.

    Advice to Management

Pay people for what they are worth. Start giving raises and do always look for employees to give back when they don't receive anything. Start looking at what is important to the whole body, not just a few.
