    You got the weekends off.

    Cons

Management not treating everyone equally, helping their favorite people for success. Regardless somebody's experience. Very poor training,..

    Advice to Management

Learn the basics, no matter who you don't care for. Treat Everyone with respect and real heartfelt appreciation for hard work. That make your numbers for you. Lead by example!!

I have been working at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Family feel company, nice atmosphere, great people. Nice location, gym, facilities. Other departments may be great, not accounting. Open communication from upper management

    Cons

Accounting - 60 hour weeks (non-close), not enough manpower, 80% of the work Excel based, unrealistic time expectations given system and lack of tools. Working at 6 am or midnight isn't uncommon. Almost feels like paid slavery with never ending work.

    Advice to Management

Balance the work. Thank your people. Reward extra hours with comp time.

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Nice facility
    -Pay is okay
    -Some nice coworkers
    -Casual Fridays

    Cons

-Work politics is strong here. Managers will take credit for your successes, but hide their own mistakes or blame you when things aren't good.
-Started doing rounds of layoffs in 2015 and kept continuing (to my knowledge they are still doing layoffs now)
-Bad management in supply chain. I have connected with several former Grainger supply chain individuals that said it was the worst job they ever had. They moved to new companies and are doing the same work and loving it, and getting promoted, While the bad managers that were their reason for leaving Grainger were still at Grainger when I worked there. Over time I learned that Grainger's supply chain has a really bad reputation and I would believe based on my experience.

There are plenty of other companies in the area that have plenty of supply chain positions. Look elsewhere if you want to enjoy your work.

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Your peers are great, you are all going through the same battle, thus the bonding.

    Cons

Management has no clue what they are doing. What used to be a customer focused company, has been turned into a profits only attitude. Very little regard for their employees.

    Advice to Management

Quit and let somebody that knows something manage.

I have been working at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Profit sharing was great but the contributions are declining each year. The health care plans are good. The Grainger leadership team is the last ray of hope if we get rid of old relationship built networks

    Cons

Poor leadership in IT organization, managers with complete lack of experience promoted to director role who have no competency to lead projects . Disappointed business folks.
Has been over a year since leadership is trying to figure out the operating model let alone deploy.
    Mass exits going on...

    Advice to Management

Bring in truly business consultants and get rid of so called engineering directors and architecture with no SME

I have been working at W.W. Grainger part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

All the positive posts here about how "great" Grainger is seem to be from their recruitment team. I've talked to hundreds of employees during my time. It's NOT good! People are leaving in DROVES! There's a myriad of reasons why! Take the good posts as more like "Alternative posts" read between the lines!

    Cons

Take the time to read the negative reviews you will see reoccurring themes! These aren't a lie or exaggerated or disgruntled employees trying to get even! They're posting the truth!

*** Part time employees have now had their breaks taken away***

They keep you just under the hours needed that allows you to take breaks.

*** It's also common practice for them to keep part timers just under 20 hours a week so you can't receive any of the benefits***

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better! Not our grandfathers company! I don't expect you to make the list top companies to work for!!! You've fallen SO FAR!

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great logistics in terms of moving product fast to the customer. Great product offering. Nice people in the lower ranks. Profit sharing (although not like it used to be)

    Cons

Don't make it easy for employees like to me leave the company. All over the board on sales strategies. It's flavor of the month. Don't get used to selling one way, it will change soon. Unethical pricing structure. Charges more than retail on many of the items. Upper management clueless. Tons of money wasted at company events. SalesForce ruining the good salespeople. You will lose the best ones in the next 12 months. Being forced to enter when you pee into SalesForce is a little extreme. Moving functions to Panama. What were you thinking? Call one of those people and feel the pain the customers do!!!

    Advice to Management

Stay consistent. Quit making the employees drink Kool Aid. Quit taking advantage of loyal customers around pricing. It's totally unethical to charge what you charge. Develop a conscience.

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, generous vacation time, these two start on day one of being hired.

    Cons

Zero work live balance, unrealistic expectations by senior management, difficult to get promoted in Macedonia unless you're part of the "in crowd", high turnover of supervisors and team members because of militant leadership from operations & process management. Very hard work for little reward and lastly NEVER knowing what time you will be going home.

    Advice to Management

Stop leading by fear and intimidation. Macedonia does not follow the corporate philosophy , just ask the people on the floor.

I worked at W.W. Grainger as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great facilities, the campus is truly beautiful

    Cons

As a contractor in HR operations, you are the dumping grounds for every boring task that none of the other HR departments want to touch. Also, I noticed that there is virtually no room for advancement from a contractor to a full-time HR role. Thus, you are locked in as a benefit-less contractor who supports the mundane tasks that other HR departments refuse to touch. Good Luck!

    Advice to Management

Provide proper training to contractors. Part of the contractor's job is supporting the phones, which is the job description of full-time ESC reps. So if you want to do a full-time job while receiving none of the benefits and pitiful pay, this is the role you are looking for!
