I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People used to work there for many years, it was a feeling like being at home where everybody knows everybody.

Used to be profit sharing plan up to 20% annually.

    Cons

Too many manners, especially non-technical managers in IT, who had no idea how to manage a technical team, but knew all about internal politics.

No clear career path for tech professionals.

    No autonomy. No independence.

    Very slow pace of everything.

    To many useless meetings.

    Advice to Management

They don't care to listen :)

I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great to learn about different sales tactics and operating systems such as Salesforce, CRM, and SEO. Great peers and very knowledgeable individuals in the company!

    Cons

Terrible compensation package as when you meet 100% sales goal you get a whopping $600. This company is beyond greedy and also misleads individuals in the hiring process especially with the recruiting. You have managers that bully individuals and take their role as if they are the RSVP of the division. If you want to be taken advantage of and make the company tons of money then sign up for this role!

    Advice to Management

Help your team be successful in developing and recognizing true leaders and stop playing favoritism. Don't bully employees or make them feel incompetent when they are there to truly be successful in their role. Recognize true leaders and help them to succeed and develop them. As a new division inside the organization y'all should take care of people who truly want to grow inside the company. Be real and honest with individuals and don't be fake!
When you have more than 7 individuals that leave under your belt in less than a year, upper leaders should look at the managers as it's not always the people working under them. Period!

    Pros

Good insurance. high pay, good helpful employees

    Cons

Pay raises are too low, senior management is horrible, favoritism

    Advice to Management

If you listen to your customers, the environment would be better, and holding yourselves accountable a major plus, no finger pointing and we don't know the answer to this or that

I have been working at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co workers and benefits package.
Most relaxed sales environment I have experienced.

    Cons

There was a never ending changing of sales strategies. The reason for this being a very top heavy establishment. There was around 4 to 5 departments that had input in how we were suppose to perform our jobs. Most coworkers had more sales experience than 75% of management. Pay is very low and commission is laughable.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the needs of the sales teams instead of trying to guess on what the next fix will be. We are the ones connecting with the customer/revenue on a daily basis.

    Pros

    Top notch training. Benefits.

    Cons

Did not believe they delivered on what they told us to expect. Took months to roll out compensation, then they took some of it away.

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the job and what to expect. Too many people came in believing in opportunities that weren't and are not there.

I have been working at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Industry Leader, Profit Sharing, Training

    Cons

Compensation has become much worse each year. Company was once focused on "employee-first choice" however that now seems like a different company. Internal Competitors (Like Zoro) web-sites create confusion and overlap multiple customers

    Advice to Management

Restore Profit Sharing to previous Top 5 Company Level; improve compensation plans
