I have been working at W.W. Grainger full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and working conditions. Lots of support in regards to products and information.

    Cons

Corporate Managers do not seem to have a good grasp on the customer experience. Trying to run the company by numbers only. Make a lot of decisions with out thinking them completely through and then change course over and over.

    Advice to Management

Value your experienced and talented people. You are trying to replace them with minimum wage help and part timers. This is severely impacting your customer experience despite your attempts to cover this up with technology. The service failures continue to grow.

    I worked at W.W. Grainger full-time

    Pros

Total Rewards package - Very competitive compensation + Benefits makes it financially a good place to work. Great ability to network and most people will help in whatever way they can. Industry leader makes it easy to engage customers instead of cold-calling. While commitment to "take care of the customer" is the foundation of the 80+ years of culture, it's changing and hard to move customers from that relationship into a more win-win eCommerce driven model.

    Cons

Work-life balance was difficult. Company is in transition right now and communication from Sr. Leadership is a little unclear. Employee Engagement is skewed and not addressing some of the root issues. Career paths not understood.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership seems to lack an understanding of current state field operations; executing on new strategies is harder than you might think. Be more transparent in communicating the 3-year plan, so field can understand and get ahead of the turmoil instead of just executing on the latest directive.

    Advice to Management

Make sure managers are aware of career advancement
