I worked at WD Partners full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits and amazing PTO. Great team of friendly people to work with. The work environment is pretty cool and modern, which has the potential to be inspiring.

    Cons

Management hire people and give them false impressions of their role and the potential within the company. Starting out there is minimal one on one training. Instead you are usually just thrown to the wolves and expected to learn everything you need to know by reviewing PDFs. Employees are expected to work longer hours as the norm and never given the opportunity to work shorter weeks when work is light. It's easy to get...

    Advice to Management

Learn to tap the potential of the employees that you have. There is great talent within your staff but you often overlook it, never give people the chance to show it or the tools to use it. Invest in your employees and the benefits will be amazing.

    Pros

Great environment, intelligent people and great benefit and pay

    Cons

People are very young and can't seem to manage all the work load.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved in the projects your employees are responsible for.

I worked at WD Partners for more than a year

    Pros

This place is okay if you just graduated or an intern looking for some experience while you look for a real engineering job. Most of the work are simple calculations a student in structural engineering can perform.

    Cons

All real engineering calculations are done by the senior engineer. Even then all the work are copied over from other jobs and is streamlined. As an entry engineer I felt they didn't really challenge me enough and didn't really gain any experience. They will not train new engineer. However It does look good on my resume. If you're desperate for a job or need a gig for the time being I would apply here while looking for...

    Advice to Management

Train new engineers the skills they need to further advance their career. The VP of structural was very good guy. The main problem would be upper management.

I worked at WD Partners full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

great place to learn and gain experience.

    Cons

Definitely not a great place to stay more than a couple years as all they are efficient at is roll out work. So be prepared to work on the same job for at least one year minimum. With that said, there isn't a lot of creative freedom. WD is in reality a revolving door for freelancers, interns, and young college graduates that are willing to work a ton of hours each week.

    Advice to Management

management needs to stop promoting people who are not qualified to do their job. This is the biggest problem with WD Partners, they keep promoting random people into management positions who have never been through any kind of management training in the past. This causes a lot of tension within the company.

I have been working at WD Partners

    Pros

WD Partners is an all-inclusive retail design firm that provides creative services in: marketing/insights, interior environments, architecture, engineering, operations, digital/3D, and implementation. Given the diversity of services, employees have access to tapping into these specialties/ resources internally. WD offers its employees multiple avenues & opportunities to take on more projects if desired. The team structure...

    Cons

If brought on to WD under a 90 day contract position, the contract usually extends out to a year rather than 3 months. Given the nature of the design industry as a whole, business tends to fluxuate quite often. Meaning job security is not promised if there are no projects/ new business developing. Look at yr. 2009 for example. However WD was one of the only design firms in the region to stay afloat during this economic...

    Advice to Management

The creative directors & senior designers I've gotten to work with have been more than leaders; they are design mentors. Something about this company feels like an extension of my family and less like "co-workers." Leadership only works when there is verticle & horizontal transparency, and this has been applied as a company wide guideline from the start.
