    Pros

    Global agency with a lot of opportunity for growth and travel.
    Big, important clients and projects with high expectations and massive reach.
    Resources to do really cool storytelling on the account side and services side (creative, content, digital, etc)
    Sophisticated management and HR structure that values experience and career growth.
    Fair compensation and bonus structure.
    Ability to move up quickly in salary and responsibility.

    Cons

    I suspect some people would say a con is having Microsoft as a major client. It's not. It's a real opportunity to work on a major global account and you will do really sophisticated and top tier work.

    As far as actual cons go, the commute to Bellevue from Seattle isn't always the most fun part of your day. But WE does provide transit passes and parking compensation which helps.

    Advice to Management

    Consider building in 5% of time for AEs and above to moonlight on other agency or client projects. That can be anything from a trip one year to another office to help on an announcement to being part of a new business pitch team. It's hard to do that on top of the L&D investments the company already makes, but those kinds of opportunities are rare at other big agencies and WE is primed to open the door wider for their staff.

    Growth opportunities, Multiple big-name clients to work on, Smart and Thoughtful leadership to serve as mentors, great benefits and pay, focus on individuals rather than masses, learning opportunities are a plenty, flexible schedules

    Office location on East side, very tech heavy client rolodex, no Southern California location

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the goodness. This company feels like one brimming with opportunities. Would love to see more diverse clients come through the door that puts us on par with the 'big guys' and keep developing bigger presence in NYC.

    Pros

    -Decent vacation and benefits
    -Strong talent within tech/healthcare
    -Office locations around the world

    Cons

    -There is a lack of awareness as to what the company actually does well, and what should be pursued from a business course. Every two-three years there will be a big shakeup at the senior level, and direction will shift which keeps the company from truly growing into its strengths.
    -Lack of opportunity for growth, unless you subscribe completely to how the company wants you to think and behave. There's little appreciation for diversity in work styles, which creates a homogeneous style when it comes to approaching clients and their problems.
    -Culturally, it's difficult to get on board with how the agency approaches new business and current clients. Because the bulk of the company's senior management is based in the Pacific North West, it's difficult for them to see beyond that bubble and work culture. Unless you're willing to chug the Kool Aid, you won't be given opportunities to grow and advance.
    -If you don't work in that region, it's very easy to feel like a satellite office. Rather than let each office grow and thrive based on the specific market they're in, they expect them all to function as though they're operating out of Portland/Seattle. What's more, leadership is totally out of touch with what's going on throughout the various offices.

    Advice to Management

    -Embrace thinking that scares you, but that allows us to focus on our core competencies. Take an honest look at what we do well and what we don't, rather than try and do it all.

    Wonderful, friendly people.
    Good work-from-home option.
    Nice benefits.

    Cons

    Sorority-based team leadership: you've gotta be "in" with the right leaders to be recognized as a "rock star."
    Lot of talk from the CEO about "people are our #1 asset," but the long work hours and the lay-offs every year are hallmarks of a place where *clients* matter most and where budgets aren't managed in an upfront, smart way.

    Advice to Management

    Decide what your core approach really is: PR? Integrated comms? Media relations?
    Don't say you're transparent: BE transparent.
    Prioritize other practices as much as you do the Microsoft account.

    Pros

    You will learn how to be a strong account person from a PR standpoint, account management standpoint, and personal leadership.

    Cons

    People are regularly promoted or hired in to management and leadership postions who have no business in that kind of position- either they can't manage people, can't manage an agency team, can't manage clients, or are inexperienced in PR. Being successful under a bad manager is extremely hard. There is no one to elevate issues to in a safe way - even HR won't protect you.

    Advice to Management

    You know who is creating problems and what problems you have - stop looking the other way and fix them.

    Pros

    The opportunities if you work hard do pay off - you are often given a great deal more responsibility. Which is not always entirely compensated, but does work well on a resume.

    Cons

    Too much hierarchy and people stay around too long - making it more difficult to truly climb to the top. Also have a slower promotion ladder than other agencies, which makes you more confident in the leadership, but takes longer for you to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

    Slim down some of the accounts - the accounts are a lot heavier on resources than they need to be. The MSFT account could be a lot lighter.

    Pros

    Some very smart and talented people, very good benefits and pay, some flexibility in working from home. Big name clients but that is changing as only Microsoft seems to be willing to pay their ridiculous fees.

    Cons

    This company was born out of Microsoft and despite the friendly facade and emphasis on collaboration when they recruit you, you will soon find out that it is just as cut-throat, with other teams competing with one another for ownership rather than supporting each other. I've given ideas that clients loved but managers on "competing" teams squash because they want to gain full ownership of the project and squeeze others out. People throw each other under the bus all the time when something fails, and managers like to pretend that they will mentor you, but once you join you have to navigate this hostile, bureaucratic environment all on your own. It is no surprise that managers move on to places like Amazon where they can continue to be bullies. There is a lot of secrecy and politics, which is odd because they force a lot of phony, corny team-building type things down your throat, which only serves to emphasize how fake everyone is.

    Advice to Management

    Encourage practices and teams in different locations to work together more rather than compete in such a hostile manner.

    Pros

    Good 401k and vacation time. Some very talented people.

    Cons

    This was a good place to work with an innovative, fun and collaborative culture. There was a time where it was ok to take risks and learn from them. This has changed over the last couple of years where now the leadership only cares about and somewhat scared of its main client. Leaders talk the big talk that people come first, it's ok to say no to clients, but in practice, they walk on eggshells around them - which is sad to see.

    I do think the CEO means well but the leadership under her, the account leaders are ineffective. They have a select set of favorites on teams and only listen/ promote those people - who happen to be just like them. Lot of talk, self promotion with little to no impact and minimal leadership skills.

    Advice to Management

    Diversify. Be good counsellors to clients but also don't be afraid to say and do the right thing for your people first. I've seen too many people thrown under the bus by the leadership and good talent leave the agency.
