    Advice to Management

Long term vision and strategy for securing new business is not entirely clear and this leaves employees doubting the future.

    I worked at WECC full-time

    Pros

Great history and record of successes. Among a very small group of organizations that helped found the energy efficiency industry over 35 years ago. Traces of the original mission and spirit still exist within the ranks. Great physical work environment in LEAD Gold building.

    Cons

Multiple wrong steps have placed the organization at risk. Morale low along with confidence in leadership.

    Advice to Management

Advice to Board of Directors. Replace senior leaders.

I worked at WECC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

None for this company at all.

    Cons

Too many to list within the organization. They were re structuring for over 2 years and paid a company to do this for them and all that changed were the titles.

    Advice to Management

    Get new management.

I worked at WECC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits/PTO. Modern building and equipment. Comfortable, organized workplace.

    Cons

Management didn't care enough about their products which was supposed to be innovative demand side management solutions for gas/electric utilities.

    Advice to Management

Hire the nerds/designers to start developing useful products for utilities. There are so many opportunities in this emerging market and it shouldn't be hard to find bright innovative people in Madison. MBAs helped WECC grow fast in an organized way, but they shouldn't be the ones charged with leading product development.

    Pros

The benefits are fantastic, the schedules are flexible and most of the staff are great to work with. It's also a casual environment.

    Cons

Depending on the position you're in it can be a LOT of work. The company has experienced some growing pains and those in the top two or three positions don't seem as connected or invested as their predecessors.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to get to know staff, take responsibility and slow down those who do the work.

I have been working at WECC full-time

    Pros

A lot of talented employees, great mission, excellent benefits, and generous PTO/Sick Time.

    Cons

There are employees who seem to think they can do, say, act, however they want and it brings down the talented staff. Their drama is causing many people to look at the thought of leaving. These employees are not only unprofessional, but they are bullies who do not have a positive outlook on their place of work or the values the company holds.

    Advice to Management

Do what it takes to keep your strong employees who actually care about their jobs, take out the cancerous children.

I worked at WECC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At the time I was there, the office had a very warm community vibe. Coworkers were very friendly and I formed lasting relationships.

The mission of sustainable and smart energy use is one that is meaningful and important.

    Cons

Leadership is stunted. The President, Board and Vice Presidents were unwilling to consider new business models and different approaches. As a result, the company lost key contracts and enacted several rounds of layoffs.

The work creatively, technically and fundamentally is behind the times. The organization does not invest in employee training, a proper website, technology, resources or business models to make a good impression or to have significant and relevant impact.

    Advice to Management

In order for WECC to rise up to its potential, major change is necessary on many levels. It seems out-of-touch with today's energy and sustainability climate and will need a more modern, hard-nosed approach in order to have a chance in today's political environment. However, the business may be OK with dialed down, limited, rudimentary operations. It's hard to know what course it is intent upon.
