      Amazing place to work

      Pros

I work with respectful and fun co-workers, with people that are always eager to help you anytime, even if you're not working in their project, they make time to help you in your issues. HR are a really awesome and caring team, even if they don't have a lot of time, they always make you feel welcomed and try everything to help you on what you need. Projects are really interesting and with a great focus on international market. They do a lot of work to make people feel good at the company: parties and other small events, meetings to share info about the company, during the Covid 19 pandemic they donate ventilators and EPI donation to a lot of institutions, employees also could benefit with some masks for them and their families and receive an extra compensation when the most companies ended bonuses and raises, at WIT we've had the double of the bonuses we usually had previous years - that was an incredible sign of how much they care for their people.

      Cons

Some project managers seems to have a bigger focus on the client needs instead of their team member's efforts and that make that sometimes we need to be more focused on what we can do accordingly to the the tight time constraints and not in the quality of the code and the quality of the overall solution.

Great place to work if you end up working with the right people

      Pros

Good facilities. Excellent work environment. Some great projects.

      Cons

Every team looks like a different company. In some teams there are excellent project management and organized work and others there is no processes at all. Some PM will evaluate you and will tell you the feedback. Others (most of them) will do not do anything and that's ok for the company.

Good place to learn, but that's about it

      Pros

You get to work with very skilled people in different areas and you get to learn a lot from them. Flexible work scheduled is a big plus, as being able to work from home from time to time. The team building activities were great, from soccer to cooking all the way to the snow trip. Good office space with free coffee and fresh fruit.

      Cons

From the conversations I had with my colleagues your experience at WIT depends on what project you're in and who's your Project Manager. It can range from good place to learn and do cool things, to all the way painfull that you'd wish you'd never taken the job. Luckily for me, I got good projects and project managers, that's why it was a good experince where I could learn and do cool stuff. WIT is a very hierarchical company, as many in Portugal are. If the guy at the top says "No" for whatever reason, it's "No" all the way down. Transparency is as clear as bottle bottom glasses lens, although they're transparent it doesn't mean you can see anything. No matter how much you make a point or express the need for change, ultimately that decision will be made by one person, which isn't directly affected by those problems, so you better get used to those types of problems not getting solved. HR work at the whim of the management, so their power is very much limited, although they do work hard. Wouldn't want to be them. Raises are usually all around but the amount depends on a very non-cientifical equation, i.e., it's relative. Bonus are mythical creatures for some, reality for others, the only way you'll know is if your salary is higher than usual, but usually in those cases you'll get a phone call where someone gives you the good news. To bad no one will explain you why you didn't get one. Evaluations are written in stone, like the ten commandements, even if you agree with your PM some points are wrong, they won't be changed. Getting promoted is also relative, usually you have to be really persistent and spend a few years trying to do achieve that. For some reason you'll have to register tour work hours and if you do less than 40h a week you'll owe an explanation. No one will bother you if you do 60+ though.

      Pros

Good facilities Projects with top companies Good spirit within dev teams

      Cons

Inexistence of development process Performance and annual evaluation based on the number of extra hours made instead of your evolution at technical level Project management is done by someone that doesn´t have knowledge of development processes and disrespects at all levels dev teams Training doesn´t exist Due to lack of proper management work overtime is needed on a day-by-day basis including weekends Management doesn´t care if you have personal life and don´t no the meaning of simple values as Respect, Integrity, Education and Honesty

Not a bad place to start a career, but you'll want to move on soon enough

      Aug 1, 2012 - Software Engineer
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Well established company - Small projects, opportunity to try new things - Good software development practices (planning, documentation, a healthy concern with software quality, dedicated testing team) - Benefits (health care plan, company paid mobile phone service) - Annual company-paid ski trip

      Cons

      - Project management would sometimes turn a bit into micro-management, giving developers little to no freedom to innovate or deviate from the plan - Middle and upper management attitude towards their subordinates was often inappropriate (somewhat aggressive at times) - You're more valued for working long hours than you are for being able to do your job within working hours - Annual evaluation is supposed to be a "discussion" with employees but from my experience you're simply told your scores with no opportunity to do anything about it
