I worked at WK Dickson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I had a great experience at WK Dickson. They really put an emphasis on keeping a healthy company culture and engage all levels of staff frequently. I would have made a long career there if my spouse wasn't being transferred to another state.

    Cons

Only have offices in the southeast so I don't have an option to transfer to the Midwest.

    Advice to Management

Keep being transparent and honest with staff. Continue to ask what we think and allow us to contribute beyond our daily tasks.

I have been working at WK Dickson full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very supportive and helpful company. A great place to start or advance your career. The interview process was smooth as well. I was contacted for a phone interview within a week of applying, and was sent an offer letter within a week after the phone interview. Interview wasn’t only focused on background and skills but I was also able to provide some insight into who I am as an individual.

    Cons

No cons, it’s been a great experience thus far! I’ve been able to learn and gain a lot since starting with WKD!

    Pros

Great Management Structure - Excellent Work Backlog

    Cons

We may have a shortage of personnel in the future, but that is a good con.

    Advice to Management

Keep the process at it is by continuing to let managers act autonomously.

I have been working at WK Dickson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity for those interested in a fast paced, exciting work environment. WK Dickson continues to care about its employees and their well being. And, they appreciate the need for a work / life balance while being client-centered and excelling at relationship building.

    Cons

None that I am aware of at this time.

    Advice to Management

Continue doing what you are doing, continue to strive at working with generation X and now generation Y who is about to begin entering the work force. Make sure you continue to have open communication and transparency with staff.

I worked at WK Dickson full-time

    Pros

The benefits and compensation were nice.

    Cons

    Pros

W.K. Dickson is a great family atmosphere where you can grow in your career. The management is very involved in day to day operations.

    Cons

Profit sharing would be nice, but I realize that this is not the platform of the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue to adapt to the ever changing market to attract new employees and clients.

I have been working at WK Dickson (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team of people without all of the corporate red tape of a larger firm, and with room for individual growth and advancement. Its easy to locate the experts in the company you need to bring on to your project team, and working across offices is highly encouraged. And they truly believe in the work/life balance!

    Cons

PTO is "use it or lose it." This should be addressed to allow some carryover. Also, a high-deductible medical plan, with an HSA account, would be a welcome option.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. The organization of the firm, and communication, is working great!

    Pros

People are generally nice, and the standards of professionalism tend to be high.

    The healthcare plan is good.

Management seems reasonable, and pushes you to be 'better' without feeling overbearing.

Transparency and openness is good. Even as a rank-and-file employee you will have access to important information about the firm. There's a sense that management places a high degree of trust in its employees.

    Travel accommodations are pretty good.

The firm has a relatively flat hierarchy, which is good. With the exception of the 2 main owners, you don't get the feeling that the executive-level is living lavish while the rank-and-file are living like peasants.

    Cons

    Boring work.

I got the impression you will not advance here unless you're an engineer over the age of 45 who secretly harbors a passion for airplanes.

The 401k match is so low it might as well not exist.

Nickel-and-dime approach to management. Preoccupied with what you do every hour, with no sense of what you'll be doing next year. Plagued with short-term thinking.

They are afraid of technology, and see it as a liability rather than an opportunity. I get the impression they see technology as a waste of time and money, as if they had some bad past experience that they cannot get over.

    Advice to Management

Stop pretending you're a 'flexible consulting firm'. You're a crusty old engineering firm.
