I worked at WKTV News Channel 2 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The former News Director, now General Manager, Steve McMurray is, by far, one of the best managers I've ever had the pleasure of working for. He's understanding, supportive and helpful. He wants to see you develop and succeed. He's one of the most wonderful people in the industry and anyone would be fortunate to work for him.

    Cons

This is small market television, so salary scales are pretty low.

I worked at WKTV News Channel 2 (More than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the strongest brands in the community. Viewers and clients love the station. There is no shortage of training, news programming or sales opportunities.

    Cons

No set policies or procedures pertaining to employees. Entire staff is too small. The station really needs to add positions rather than eliminating them. Employees would be more productive and produce better results if they didn't have to do 3 or 4 jobs at a time.

    Advice to Management

Add more support staff. Appreciate the employees that are there putting in 50 - 60 hours a week, breaking their backs. Define policies and procedures and get employee input.

This company is no longer owned by Smith Media. Therefore, the CEO listed is incorrect. Michael Granados was the CEO for Smith Broadcasting and he was wonderful CEO. WKTV has been owned by Heartland Media since March 2014. The CEO is Bob Prathers.

    Pros

I like my coworkers, the actual work, and the fact that there is always something new to work on everyday.

    Cons

The hours can be long. Sometimes, I don't get home until 10pm at night. Other than that, I really enjoy the job.

    Advice to Management

My direct boss is awesome. I like the freedom they give me to do work as i please. I also enjoy the direction.

    Cons

the pay. its up on a hill so driving up the hill can be hard in the winter. union dues

    Advice to Management

leadership was good when i was there. better pay woul equal longer retention by employees, however because it is such a small market the low pay is understandable

I worked at WKTV News Channel 2 as an intern

    Pros

Got out in the field a lot
Interviewed while out in field after a couple of learning experiences
Lots of great people who are willing to tell you about your experiences

    Cons

    Un-paid internship
