I worked at WMS Gaming full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun co-workers, good work environment with great break room (pool tables, video games, Foosball etc.. ) gym, cafeteria.

    Cons

Very little to no room for advancement. Company outlook does not look bright. Ever since the company was acquired by Scientific Games things have gone down hill at WMS tons of talented, loyal people have been let go in all departments. Management is not in tune with the employees and are making all the wrong decisions. As more and more people are let go, more is demanded from the employees and very little is done to show appreciation to the employees. Company outings were very common in the past but now it is rare to have one in a year.

    Advice to Management

With the obvious amount of debt the company has due to being acquired by Scientific Games and also SG acquiring Bally, there is little that management will do to actually invert into their current and future employees. Over time the morale of the employees will get lower as more people get let go, more cuts are made, and no employee acknowledgement is given and it is a matter of time before they realize the damage has been done and bythat time it will be irreversible. Start inverting into employees before it is too late. Employees are always the backbone of the company they need to be supported and appreciated.

    Pros

Some great people who care about the company and want things to get better but Sadly they aren't - no one seems happy to be at work anymore

    Cons

So much ego in management, poorly run, don't listen to others. "Culture" isn't what you think it is, your employees are functioning adults, treat them that way.
Management has their favorites and will protect them, despite multiple employee complaints and obvious issues (obvious to everyone outside of management). If you can "manage up" you're safe, even if you make everyone else's life hell and you're not good at what you do. If you somehow convince management you should be a favorite, you apparently become untouchable.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your employees and listen to them. You're not always right, if you were people wouldn't be so eager to leave and find somewhere they're actually valued
I wouldn't recommend WMS or the SG Interactive division to anyone. They have managed to change the company to a culture that makes it a very difficult place to work. My well-being depended on my finding a new job which was too bad because I did like my job and the work that I did. There was just no way I could continue to work in that situation and be a happy person. People have tried to tell you there are problems. Put your egos aside and realize you need to change if the company is every going to succeed. You need good people to run a successful company, you're driving the good people away and will soon be left with only the people who think they're good but would throw anyone and everyone under the bus for their own gain.

I have been working at WMS Gaming full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The compensation and benefits have been consistently above-average through the transition from the original leadership to the takeover of the hired guns to the acquisition by SciGames.
The actual work is fun and interesting and you will find people who care about that above the politics and posturing. Hopefully you report to one.

    Cons

Most of the vision and purpose of the leadership from the early 2000s has been lost through the transitions and the focus has shifted to pure numbers. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it is part of the maturation as the company and market has grown and perhaps necessary to survive in 2015.

    Advice to Management

Since the exit of the original leadership, I never really understood the goals of the organization other than profit, and even how to go about becoming more profitable other than work hard and obey orders. If that was communicated at all, it sounded like propaganda and difficult to get behind. Fix that.

I have been working at WMS Gaming full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Empolyees are very hard wording and had a common goal to help the company succeed. Benefits are ok but used to be better.

    Cons

Company once prided itself on being an "Employer of Choice" and after the acquisition, you can feel it was no longer the case. Career Development is pretty much non-existent as it based on nepotism as I have never seen before (its not what you know but who you know).

I have been working at WMS Gaming full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good here, comparable to other companies. You are exposed to many interesting products at the Chicago campus. In addition, the people that work here are innovative and team based. Great working conditions at the chicago office.

    Cons

The new leadership has caused growing pains within the company ever since being bought out by Scientific Games. The previous executive committee has gone and so did the great values and culture they brought into WMS. The opportunity for promotions in the workplace is minimal at this point due to not meeting sales goals and budgeting from the parent company.

    Advice to Management

Try to emulate what the previous leadership did for the employees of WMS. They valued their employees highly and made sure that was shown. The basis of WMS products is innovation, so we need to continue that path to stay successful as the company develops into its mergers.
