I have been working at WVU Medicine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some people are trying to cultivate an atmosphere for sharing knowledge, however, it can be a struggle at times.

    Cons

Benefits are horrible. Management is set in the mindset of, "No you can't do that because no one's ever done that before."

    Advice to Management

If you encourage people to better themselves, then don't stand in their way!

I worked at WVU Medicine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good coworkers (for the most part) that were always willing to help each other out. It created a supportive atmosphere on the ground level. Employees usually stuck together and knew what was needed to get the job done. The doctors were generally easy to work with, especially if you had quality patient care as your #1 priority. I parted on good terms and would be happy to return if the below issues were ever resolved.

    Cons

Leadership was out of touch with employees and did not have their priorities straight. It was all about the money to them. Quality patient care starts with quality employees, and it's difficult to retain good workers when they are treated like disposable peons. I have never seen so much disrespect towards a company's employees. HR policies were unfair and unforgiving, and HR employees were some of the worst individuals you'd ever have to deal with. They were definitely on the side of the money-hungry management; they provided no support to employees whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the good employees you have and create an atmosphere that values them. Or at the very least, just treat your employees like people. Realize that patient care comes before making money.

I worked at WVU Medicine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to advance your skills and learn about new procedures. Fast-paced, team-oriented, and good management.

    Cons

Hard to gain rapport and trust with the patients since the facility is so big and most of them were coming from small towns.

    Advice to Management

My manager was excellent, and really listened to her staff. Keep up the great work!

I worked at WVU Medicine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Can get hired pretty easily.

    Cons

    (1) All about the status quo and supports "good ole boys" mentality.
    (2) Management at all levels is incompetent and made up of "yes people" who do not know how to lead others.
    (3) Forget any kind of advancement...and apply only if you are entry level and willing to work for peanuts.

    Advice to Management

Grow a soul--too bad doctors have not yet figured out how to transplant one.
