I have been working at WVU Medicine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits for union (read: lower level) staff are great - affordable health insurance, fair PDO
    Coworkers are great
Shift differential is decent at 10% for working evening/night

    Cons

Many Lower level staff has low morale for no reason. It's a great place to work comparatively to other hospitals in the region, but everyone seems to harp on how bad they think it is.
Getting pulled to other units is awful
    Bureaucracy can be annoying

    Advice to Management

Focus on improving patient safety rather than unimportant things like dress code

    Management treats employees terrible

    Advice to Management

Be consistent, more than 1 day of training to keep things consistent, better pay

I worked at WVU Medicine full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people you work with are amazing. They truly work as a team.

    Cons

Long term employees are capped on salary. They also should feel security in their job but there are a lot of long term employees being let go, both in executive and support roles.

    Advice to Management

I know there is a changing of the guard but your long term employees can be your best asset especially the ones who are willing to help you progress the organization forward even if it is a different direction.

I worked at WVU Medicine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Training was good. There was good teamwork amongst the employees on the floor - not much else I can say that is positive.

    Cons

Completely and constantly understaffed. The unit I worked in would hire new nurses because no experienced nurse would put up with the dangerous staffing levels. I felt bad for the patients because most of their nurses had little or no experience.

    Advice to Management

If you didn't work your nurses to death and put them in dangerous situations you might be able to put together a good staff.

    Pros

Self directed, easy-going work, 3 or 4 day workweek

    Cons

Unfair wage structure, limited advancement, bad weather driving in winter, management abusive towards employees, extended sitting with limited chances to stretch legs

    Advice to Management

Be considerate of employees, polite communication goes a long way, even wage structure to reward solid work performance rather than rewarding previous experience for low skill job
