    Unstable job, poor management

Feb 27, 2014 - Service Provider in Elk Grove, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Members and coworkers are wonderful to work with.

    Cons

Low pay. You cannot maintain a regular schedule or income because you are laid off if a week's attendance drops. You are expected to hold yourself available for that meeting in case the attendance increases at some time in the future. Management constantly hires and then removes meetings from experienced people in order to work in the new hires. So you better have another paying job. Weight Watchers is just extra money for most. You will never get a pay raise for sticking with the company. New hires make the same $25 per meeting as longtime employees..

    Mixed experience.

Jul 29, 2012 - Service Provider in Oakland, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Working with members to help them achieve their goals. Opportunity to make dynamic and fun presentations. Excellent evaluation methodology and above average training.

    Cons

Difficult to get enough hours to qualify for benefits. Although I wanted Weight Watchers to be full time work, known by management, I was not assigned sufficient meetings. Upper management treats staff disrespectfully: instead of treating us as professionals entitled to a salary with additional commissions for product sales, we received only a minimum wage equivalent (paid a minimal amount per meeting worked) plus additional sums based on attendance and product sales.

This is a job that requires passion, skill of public speaking and great customer service.

    Pros

This company is grass roots in that they believe in their mission to help members lose weight and do this by providing credible information, a healthy and livable program and the support of your community and meeting room staff.

    Cons

While they are pro member, the treatment of the staff can be questionable. This job requires the utmost professionalism, countless hours of training and miscellaneous hours that are unpaid. They require a lot but don't pay much more than minimum wage.

Enjoy working with other Service Providers (SP) and Members in meetings

Oct 3, 2014 - Service Provider in Toronto, ON

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The only reason you would want to work as a SP is to give back the support you receive from members and SPs in become a lifetime member. The staff in the field is amazing in making the meetings supportive, enjoyable and informative for the members. The program really does work if you work it.

    Cons

Everyone knows the compensation is poor. Management just loves new SPs because they are so naïve and eager. As my husband said "Management can get away with poor working conditions when the SPs are zealots". Has Management every thought what would happen if all the service providers in North America all took the same week off work? The answer is the company would immediately fail.

Helping others, Meaningful work, Satisfying. Build a relationship with your manager

    Oct 29, 2012 - Service Provider

    Business Outlook

    Pros

You are really on the frontlines of helping others change the quality of their lives. You have constant contact with members and participate in their success. It is very rewarding and personally satisfying. All WW staff have lost weight using the Weight Watchers program so we all can empathize with what the members are experiencing. WW gives great gifts to their staff.

    Cons

The Territory Managers are God to the local service providers. If you have a good TM then you will have a great experience working here. If your relationship with your TM is not so good, or your TM is power hungry then your experience will suck!

Interaction with the Members is the BEST!!

    Nov 26, 2011 - Service Provider - Leader

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Meeting and supporting members on their journey to a healthy weight, and the best part - maintaining their healthy weight. 1/2 price on products (that are generally overpriced to begin with), free eTools, higher emphasis on maintaining weight loss, magazine subscription

    Cons

the pay situation for those in the meeting rooms continues to be poor, and any additional pay comes from pushing over-priced products and a monthly-pass which benefits current members but makes WW revenue when these members quit and forget to cancel. Support work outside of the meeting room (online communication, creation of meeting materials/props, etc...) is all off the clock. Closing a meeting during bad weather is frowned upon, even at the safety of staff and mambers, and forget getting sick or needing a sub last minute - almost impossible. Overworked Territory Management, and cut-backs on training staff a few years ago has resulted in inconsistent service provider experiences.

    For the members

    Mar 14, 2010 - Service Provider

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The chance to help members with their weight issue goals, a good chance to make a difference. A solid healthy based program structure where the meetings are the "glue" that hold like minded people together.

    Cons

Poor pay structure, even poorer communication. Experienced staff overlooked for new meetings/opportunities. Leaders losing meetings due to retention ratios, not being given viable data to support the decision, or chance to improve it.

    Great job, miserable pay

    Feb 21, 2010 - Service Provider

    Business Outlook

    Pros

It's wonderful to be able to help other people achieve successful weight loss and healthier living. Almost all of my co-workers are terrific and dedicated people.

    Cons

The expectations for the pay is completely unreasonable. I essentially make minimum wage and a very small commission. I do not get compensated for the time spent to keep my meetings fresh, interesting and keep my members coming back, but my job performance is rated on that. People in larger metro areas see a significantly higher pay rate in general and because the population base allows larger meetings, hence better pay. They want good, strong motivated, creative people with strong interpersonal skills but aren't willing to pay for it.
