I have been working at Wabtec full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The physical office is new and looks nice. You don't have to worry too much about work/life balance being a problem.

    Cons

Pay is well below market standard and benefits are mediocre at best. Several engineers have gone years without a performance review or merit increase. There is little feedback on your job performance overall. Cooperation between departments and engineering teams is very poor. People seem to like to carve out a kingdom and stick to it. Upper management is severely lacking in leadership and transparency. They do... not inspire anyone to go out of their way at all and mostly stay in their offices with the door closed. The whole aura screams "go away, I don't want to talk to you." Management does not engage or challenge employees, and they have no respect from any of the people working in the office. This is not an engineering firm. They have no process in place to develop software, and the code they do have is so bad that it is at critical mass and is no longer maintainable. Despite that, management seems blind to these issues, even when they are repeatedly told they cannot continue this way. Even customers are starting to notice the problems. Employees are leaving like they are on a sinking ship and management cannot even begin to fathom why.

    Advice to Management

Take time to understand why employees are leaving. Make some effort to fix the problems before you lose all your customers.

    I worked at Wabtec full-time

    Pros

Good culture, people are helpful, doesn't foster resentment. Benefits are decent. I would feel good going back there. Pay is competitive.

    Cons

Communication from upper management leaves a lot to be desired. Process sometimes gets circumvented to get results. Nothing too special. It is just a job.

    Advice to Management

You need to communicate to the entire company better on the status of the company, and also on the industry as a whole.

    Pros

Per diem is the only thing that makes the pay somewhat worth it. Get to travel all over the United States with travel paid for. Either by airplane or the company pays you up to 600 miles to drive. Reimbursements for water, gatorade, ice, airport parking, airport baggage, tolls and other things. Pay up to $500 for you to get your class a CDL. Company gives you $100 a year for new boots. 6 Days off at a time.... Three weeks off for xmas with yearly bonus and 80 hours paid. The health care is fairly decent.

    Cons

Away from family 8 days at a time Low hourly pay for the work that needs done. Upper management isnt to great for the most part. They care more about production than they care about safety of their workers. They are all about the buddy buddy system, only promoting people they are friends with even if they dont know hardly anything.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they deserve. Stop promoting idiots just because they are buddies back home and promote the guys that actually have the experience and job knowledge. Care about your employees more than rushing to complete jobs.

    Pros

If you work in upper management or hr. You have many pros. Workers. There are no pros.

    Cons

The click of upper management and hr. Is no good. Hr think they run the company. Just a very poor company to work for.

    Advice to Management

You need to clean up management and hr. And treat workers better. Better pay.

I have been working at Wabtec

    Pros

Benefits are on par and annual raises are normal. Large company with room for growth.

    Cons

Upper management is out of touch with lower personnel. They're after the all mighty dollar and tend not to care about their employees futures. Also don't like to pay their bills at end of quarters so it makes it awkward with vendors.

    Advice to Management

Be open to listen to lower employees. When building a house you start with a foundation not a roof.
