I have been working at Wagner Equipment Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I am one who loves working for family-owned companies. The Wagner family is very involved in the company and are dedicated to WECo's success. The benefits are fantastic; especially retirement benefits. Bruce wants his people who dedicate decades of their life to his business to retire well. CAT is stable and Wagner is always a top-tier dealer. Great work-life balance.

    Cons

Very slow to change. We often sit back and watch our competitors get better, faster, and cheaper while we over-analyze everything and need Bruce's personal approval of any major company change. This slows the growth of the company and makes it hard to compete. Pay is lower than competing companies, but benefits make up for it. Also, vacation time is sub-par. Only 10 days a year until 5 years.

    Advice to Management

We need to modernize. People need more empowerment to make changes; even major ones that may benefit the organization .

I have been working at Wagner Equipment Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Friendly environment with relaxed atmosphere.

    Cons

Most women do not get promoted and managers are always men.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating women like they are only capable of support roles. Pay women equal to men's salaries.

    Pros

    Pros
    -Good health insurance
    -Tractors are cool?

    Cons

    Cons
    -Shady ethics.
-If you are a woman, don't expect fair pay or fair treatment.
-If you are sick or injured at work, don't expect them to follow FMLA or Worker's Compensation law and definitely expect retaliation for taking those benefits. They know how to toe the line legally.
-Vacation/PTO benefits are stuck in the 80s. Will never be able to keep Millennial or Gen Z employees.
-Make sure you don't share your personal life (especially if you fall outside the box of conservative, good ole boys club).
-HR team ignores concerns from employees of unethical behavior from management.
-Managers work about 2/3 of a 40 hour week so they can maintain their 130 stroke golf hobby, go to happy hour with their mistress, or attend their child’s fencing practice. Lower level employees (even salary employees) required to take vacation time off for a doctor’s appointments, DMV, and the like. This cuts into your vacation time (which is already next to non-existent).

    Advice to Management

-Get an anonymous employee concerns phone line (Bruce would be shocked to know what his managers are doing)
-Get into the 21st century with your company culture.

I have been working at Wagner Equipment Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, brand recognition, training, manufacturer support. Wagner has their own training center in Aurora to keep techs up to speed on new models and technology.

    Cons

Pay is 15-50% lower than other heavy equipment shops in the area. It is difficult to survive in this market with so little pay. You have to work overtime to make enough. The shop rate is so much lower than other heavy shops in the area that it leaves no room to pay their people. They refuse to increase the rate. What's worse is they recently laid several people off and put a very low ceiling on raises, just to turn around and report, chests puffed, that they were bringing on 21 new people.

    Advice to Management

Pay your techs a competitive rate that they can survive in this market with! Co-workers with young kids have it even worse!
Also fire the foremans at this location and bring on competent managers who can actually lead and stand by their people- yes men do not do shop morale any favors!

I worked at Wagner Equipment Company (More than 10 years)

    Pros

working with external customers in the heavy equipment field you get to meet a wide variety of hard working individuals trying to better

    Cons

Unless you have the right last name or know someone who does, you won't get far in the company. You will have work that isn't related to your job piled on you without getting a updated job description or title.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your business unit managers have the skills to do their jobs and lead their teams. Stop playing the 'favorites' game and understand not everyone has your best interest in mind when they come to work every day. If your focus is going to be on 'one professional team' you really should make sure everyone is held accountable to that goal and not chastised for bringing it up when departments aren't following them. Additionally, nipping racist and sexist comments in the bud should be commonplace instead of reprimanding the person who brought it to the attention of their manager, "mind your own business" is not an acceptable response.
