I worked at Waitrose (Less than a year)

    Pros

great flexibility, good working hours, friendly atmosphere, overall was a great place for part time employment ' only worked Saturdays however

    Cons

sometimes did not get paid when last customers were in store, due to customer service were forced to wait for last remaining customers

    Advice to Management

improve the system of breaks, a shift with less than four hours did not warrant a break. however after staring at a screen for this time it was not healthy.

I worked at Waitrose full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You own the business as a Partner and have a direct stake in its success

    Cons

A trend towards the idea that consultants are the root to realising future growth ambitions without necessarily unlocking all of the internal talent that exists

I worked at Waitrose part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, possibility to progress if that's what you want

    Cons

Management disorganised with rotas, clear favoritism of certain people, the way they try to force you to do overtime is a complete joke

    Advice to Management

Don't put so much pressure on part time employes to do overtime

I worked at Waitrose part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relatively flexible hours, effective part time college and student holiday income. High levels of training provided

    Cons

Trade often slow in Exeter, managers can be unwilling to accommodate individual circumstances. Overtime often expected to be completed, not seen as a choice. Relatively high turnover of staff.

    Advice to Management

Clearer communication between departments and managers. Often too willing to help the customers, easy for the good nature of the business to be taken advantage of.

    Cons

I have been working at Waitrose full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The discount is very good, the staff are all lovely. The company sources food ethically and is honest about its practices

    Cons

Waitrose is battling to survive in the retail food market and isn't as pleasant to work for as it is perceived.
Very hard work and understaffed, customers are more challenging and 'entitled' than you'd expect from a supermarket.

I have been working at Waitrose part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay for students, long breaks, 25% John Lewis discount and discounts at some restaurants etc.

    Cons

Decreasing bonus, difficult to work your way up nowadays

I worked at Waitrose part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There were good benefits, including an annual bonus, John Lewis partnership scheme, and good staff discount. The staff in the shop that I worked were friendly, and there was generally a good atmosphere.

    Cons

In my opinion the shop was poorly managed, especially the home delivery department, which didn't seem to have any one person responsible for running the department. A lot of the responsibility fell onto the staff working within the department, which was quite stressful at times and caused quite a few staff to end up having time off or changing department.

I have been working at Waitrose full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent benefits
    Junior management are decent people

    Cons

Waitrose are continually making cut backs at the expense of entry level employees (evening premium gone, sunday premium gone, all breaks are now unpaid).

    Advice to Management

You talk about how important the hard work of your supermarket assistants is, yet you're making it harder and harder for us to survive. Waitrose used to be known for treating 'partners' well, but now it's no different to working anywhere else.
