I worked at Wake County Public Schools full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits and pay for teachers Possibilities to attain CERTAIN resources is high because of the size of the district

    Cons

The bigger the school system, the more paperwork and hoops to jump through School successes are really determined by each principal, but unfortunately even ineffective principals aren't dealt with, only moved around to a different school Parents first, teachers second

I have been working at Wake County Public Schools full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Largest school System in NC and makes decisions that other counties in NC follow.

    Cons

Too large and very political... Afro American women get less and less opportunities even when others have less formal education and degrees. County and state does not pay for earning Master degrees like other states. Leaders are in the dark ages and actually enjoy it!

I have been working at Wake County Public Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome Staff; kind and helpful, really aim to build connections with the children, great team work and atmosphere.

    Cons

Teacher Assistants/ Instructional Assistants are paid poorly. Many have children and families of their own and are not bringing home much of a check. Most have part-time jobs in addition to their full time job with the school system, which also pulls them away from their families just to provide a comfortable living. The cost of living in Wake County is rising and the school system is not accommodating their teacher assistants/ support staff as much as they are supporting their certified staff. Many support staff personnel are overqualified for their positions as it is.

    Pros

Working with children is a blessing.

    Cons

Large school system with no regard for employee. Poor pay structure, benefits are expensive, hard to move to another school without permission from principal. What other industry makes you ask to change jobs?
