I have been working at Wake Forest University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great connections, everyone is eager to help you network if you're willing to take the initiative.

    Cons

Wouldn't recommend for someone who needs constant oversight; type of position only well-suited for those who can self-manage.

I worked at Wake Forest University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great sense of community
A sincere commitment to diversity and inclusion (although much work has to be done on actually achieving this in practice)

    Cons

Politics can stunt great initiatives; oftentimes initiatives and programs are changed without proper evaluation or trying them a second year to measure year-to-year outcomes; very very low pay and a concerted effort to keep paying under market value for positions; expectation to work over-time in spite of low pay; much of pay issues stem from a very dysfunctional HR (the list of grievances for the HR team is too long to list here).

    Advice to Management

Value your employees, advocate for salary raises and ensure HR does not block said promotions and salary changes for nonsensical reasons

    Pros

This is a great place. Quite environment, nice people. Not a lot pressure. The place to be if you want a real life.

I have been working at Wake Forest University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back department with great resources and connections. Great work environment! There are many opportunities to collaborate across the university or with other labs at the medical school campus.

    Cons

Expectations aren't always clear. The current chemistry department needs severe remodeling. Teaching labs can be a big headache because of poor communication with previous lab coordinators and overall disorganization of information.

    Advice to Management

Be more concise with what your expectations are and MAINTAIN fair treatment to all.
