I worked at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Most of the employees are there for the right reasons. Hard working people from the clinical staff to the administrative staff. Good mission of helping the community.

    Cons

Too much instability and constant change. Financial concerns and high turnover. Biggest problem by far is the lack of leadership from the CEO.

    Advice to Management

The board, community and staff need to take a serious look at how this organization is run at the top. The CEO treats people horribly. She plays games with people and tosses them aside once she is done with them. How many people have to leave and say the same thing about the CEO for people to start paying attention? There is a pattern. It's obvious yet ignored.

I worked at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to provide healthcare to the underserved population.

    Cons

Senior Management is very incompetent. Decisions are not made in consideration of all. Financial problem caused unstableness as well as the inability to staff centers appropriately. Administration is top heavy and centers are struggling. Staffing instability throughout entire organization.

    Advice to Management

Explore CHANGE. It is definitely time to bring in new blood to change the culture of the organization overall

    Pros

The only positive things I can say about this place is the patient interaction and population. I enjoy my coworkers as well. The PTO accrual was actually decent.

    Cons

so much to type......ALL of the big wig administrators are so impersonable. I didn't k ow who the CEO was until 6 months into my position. She didn't introduce herself nor does she speak. The only time you see her or hear from.her is when someone comes with a site visit lookong to invest money into the org. Then she speaks...barely.The COO is even worse he just walks around with his coffee and tie with his nose in the air. The turnover rate is beyond ridiculous. Patients constantly complain about having to see different providers when they come. I've gone through 3 managerS, 1practice administrator, 4 receptionist, 1 RN, 2 NP, and 6 MD. No annual raises are given. If you need a job to pass time until you find another job this is the perfect place. I've been looking since I was hired!!! They are building a new building and asking the employees to contribute from their already small pay checks. You work over 40 hours but can't get OT...if you go over they send you home or adjust your timecard! Training is horrible for new employees.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to the concerns of your current staff. Especially those who somehow have been with the company over 5 years. Do more to keep the moral up and less to keep your wallets fat!

I have been working at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good orientation, good salary w solid benefits. They see how you are doing regularly and genuinely seem focused on everyone being important all having a voice to improve care delivery

    Cons

None. It can get busy at ROck Quarry FM. Some patient care is complicated and takes more time and patience.

    Advice to Management

Keep asking each clinic for improvement ideas. Good orientation being done. I see very good clinical focus.

    Pros

The staff at the sites who were committed to provide healthcare to the uninsured or underinsured. The medical services provided are very much needed in the community.

    Cons

The CEO has poor judgment, lacks in very basic leadership skills and is self serving. Although the staff and community are clearly disappointed in her performance, she remains in the position. There are many talented compassionate staff in the organization who are not recognized or listened to.

The continued high provider and staff turnover is a direct result of the dissatisfaction that prevails in the organization. When will the Board take heed?

    Advice to Management

Replace the CEO with someone with more compassion and better management skills.

    Pros

    - Good place if you need some quick cash - they will hire anyone since turnover (provider, clinical, and professional) is 40-60% per year
    - Located near downtown Raleigh, parking is free

    Cons

    - Senior management runs a mom and pop shop and doesn't understand how a business should be run
    - poor profitibility in spite of a high insured patient mix, the best per visit medicaid payment in the triangle, and lucrative federal grants. That means no raises, no bonuses, no promotions, and constant job fear
    - high employee stress factor - constantly understaffed and directed to work on pointless projects since senior management doesn't know how to create value

    Advice to Management

Throw in the towel. A good manager knows when he or she isn't the right person for the job.

    Pros

Taking care of patients that have no access to healthcare otherwise.

    Cons

Senior management has been there too long and has burned many community bridges that are essential for continued success of the organization. Lots of favoritism and little tolerance for change suggestions if not introduced by senior management.

    Advice to Management

Leave. Give the organization a chance to flourish under new leadership.

I worked at Wake Health Services, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Organization exist for the right reasons. There are many people in the area that need affordable health care. Wake Health Services provides that need for employed people who just can afford health insurance.

    Cons

Non-profits are hard places to work. A previous member of the Sr. Management team was allowed to cause drama where ever she went. Made for bad/low morale.

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff and do something instead of letting the comments/concerns of staff fall on deaf ears.

    Pros

Don't have any at this time.

    Cons

Poor senior level of management. CEO is a joke and should be removed from her position. The board has no idea what is really going on. Someone needs to inform them, better yet the federal government who funds this place should come in and investigate. Staff have been here for 3 and 4 years with no raises, but yet and still the CEO ensured that she received one or two. She has mishandled funds in the organization, the former COO assisted her. Grant monies are not allocated as they should and someone needs to come in and investigate what is going on. The new CHRO, is now acting as the COO, making decisions in the lives of staff that are already living at the poverty level of the patients that are served there. They are only here for the Medicaid money, patients are left waiting for hours, providers only have 20 minute appointment slots, and with the amount of issues these patients have, the poor providers can't provide the quality of care they would like to provide. The patients seen here are not treated very well.

    Advice to Management

You have great staff within this organization but you FAIL as ALWAYS to listen to them when they are telling you things that need to happen. You are FAILING this COMMUNITY and you have FAILED the EMPLOYEES who work there. Shame on you, I don't know how you sleep at night. God is watching everything that you do and just know it is going to catch up with you very, very, very, soon.
