    Pros

Interacting and helping students out. Putting students needs first is what we aim for.

    Cons

•Teams tend to be short staffed leading to an overload of work at times. •In order to get forms approved there is an approval list it has to go through which could take days depending on other staff members schedules.

"Very toxic work environment; would not recommend for growth"

I have been working at Wake Technical Community College full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Helping students Campus Police are kind and easily accessible Decent benefits

    Cons

Within various departments, there is a consistently oppressive and toxic environment, including passive aggressive comments, gossip, and mixed messages from those in supervisor roles. Lower level staff are undervalued and blamed for the mistakes of others. Higher administration seem to make their own rules & display favoritism. Administrative processes and changes are frequently ineffectively communicated. As a result, when staff do not follow procedures as expected, they are the ones at-fault, even though they were not notified of such changes. Oftentimes, upper management disregards staff concerns, even if it affects their ability to perform well and serve students adequately. An accumulation of stress and the lack of support causes many employees to quickly become apathetic & burned out.

I have been working at Wake Technical Community College full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The other staff and faculty are passionate about what they do and how to help students succeed. I enjoy teaching. The benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Picky about schedules. Expectations that all students will or should pass and if they drop out, it's because we didn't help them enough. PD is limited and repetitive.

I worked at Wake Technical Community College full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Helping students from very diverse backgrounds move their academic and career ambitions forward; good work / life balance. Administration does seem to look out for the staff in most cases (for example, when community college funding dropped state-wide following the 2008 economic meltdown, Wake Tech was able to avoid measures like mandatory furloughs and downsizing).

    Cons

Campuses are not terribly convenient to the more densely populated areas of Wake County, necessitating long commute times and working in places without much around in terms of restaurants and shopping; very limited resources compared to 4-year state schools means absolutely no frills and in some cases, sub-par offerings (tutoring centers are way understaffed, libraries are underfunded and have little autonomy, adjunct instructors are sometimes not skilled or particularly knowledgeable).
