    they want staff nurses to be engaged in the organization. Lots of opportunities for nursing to be involved.

    Distance, friendly departments, on-site pharmacy

    Cons

    Just because we don’t have direct, patient contact does not mean we don’t matter. You give nurses 5 to $10 more an hour and nothing to anybody else. Laboratory personnel have more education than RN’s and give physicians the answers. They need to diagnose and treat patients. A lot of revenue is generated from laboratory testing.

    In my time at WakeMed, I was very supported by my managerial staff and by my clinical champions. I believe my skill set improved exponentially in this warm and supportive environment.
