I have been working at WakeMed Health and Hospitals full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work life balance. Colleagues are nice, respectful, and great communication among departments.

    Cons

Management is mostly supportive but have had a few experiences that were less that savory. Overall, have been very happy in my 10 years here.

I have been working at WakeMed Health and Hospitals full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great place for students and it will help you grow as a person. Dealing with different personalities will build character. Work/Life Balance is great and honestly that is the only reason I am still at Wakemed but it isnt my final destination.

    Cons

Be prepared for clicks and people who have 2 faces. This company has a way to try and get people together but all do not participate in the Wake Way.I have met nice people but my instincts tell me to not trust a soul in that place. A lot of tattling goes on and no one tells you if they have a problem with what you do first. Also, you have to be there for a year to advance.

I have been working at WakeMed Health and Hospitals

    Pros

They pay well and the discounts for being an employee.

    Cons

Leadership is corrupted. Cut-throat work environment. No real path for advancement. Work/life balance is out of balance. More work no life. Which is why everyone is so miserable. And you know what they say, misery loves company.

I worked at WakeMed Health and Hospitals full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There were competitive pay rates with impressive shift differential compared to other facilities. Full time benefits plan was descent. That's it.

    Cons

The unit was very cliquish. Unit management was not in touch with staff needs. Management had "favorites" that would get away with anything. You had to suck up to get noticed as a great bedside nurse. Managers would cover up large clinical errors of some staff while magnifying small mistakes (none clinical) of others. Minimal work/life balance.

I have been working at WakeMed Health and Hospitals for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Coworkers are fantastic, reliable, and knowledgeable. Decent benefits package. Onsite gym (at Raleigh facility).

    Cons

Pay is not competitive to attract and retain best talent. Department/mid-level management is out of touch with staff. Department manager does not consider staff input, instead has a very "my-way-or-the-highway" mentality and operational philosophy. No internal training programs to prepare and develop staff. You're forced to learn the vast majority of what you will be responsible for as you're doing it, which leads to a lot of errors, double work, and staff frustration. Very little accountability is imposed upon staff who underperform. Raises are meager, if you get them--they're called "merit increases" here but everyone complains about the seemingly rigged fashion in which raises are awarded--there is very little difference between the raises of department top performers and bottom performers, so the "merit" system is rather socialist. Management does a lot of "covering" for each other when one of their ranks does something wrong.
