    Micromanaging Environment

Jan 9, 2023 - Assistant Field Education Coordinator in Minneapolis, MN

    Pros

There was nothing good about working here. It was a hazard to my health.

    Cons

Leadership micromanaged everything. Our department specifically would work incredibly hard to never get raises, bonuses, or anything else. The nursing students calling or chatting in treated us like garbage. Pay was horrible and benefits were not great. Barely got time off.

    Pros

Great company overall when it comes to benefits and the high level management is great.

    Cons

The lower level managers are allowed to do what they want. They are not checked after so they are allowed to be racist and harass their employees without any consequences.

    Great Work/Life Balance

    Apr 12, 2019 - Admissions Specialist

    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Stable work environment, low-stress in my particular department. Flexible management with a casual, receptive attitude. No drama or high-intensity personalities. Workload is typically manageable, although tends to be dynamic and unpredictable. Extremely low turnover--almost too-low--with many veteran employees from previous generations of the company hanging around and outlasting even their own management. Great benefits. Overall a stable, consistent place to work. Pay is not terrible, but the raise structure is very modest.

    Cons

Repetitive job with a very limited ceiling for advancement. Little room for innovation, as management values hard-working employees that can fit into the existing framework, but don't particularly support stepping outside of that. That being said, management is flexible and getting in contact with them is not hard; they do take the time to listen to employees. Also, the university is for-profit, and that fact drives the business, despite the fact that the work culture doesn't frame it as such.

    Pros

    Cons

    Quantity over Quality

Feb 12, 2017 - Anonymous Employee in Minneapolis, MN

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great benefits including an occasional work from home day. Wonderful social change mission. Convenient office location.

    Cons

Management over leadership, vast amount of HIGHLY unqualified students enrolled, lack of diversity in the work place from a school whose student body is largely made up of racial and ethnic minorities. Support for work staff is non-existent. Department "standards" are thrown out the window to accommodate unqualified students who complain. Remote "leadership" is only concerned with numbers and does not value quality of the degree programs provided. 1% raises are the norm and there is no opportunity for growth.

    Academic Advising Department

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great Benefits and very little else. There is tremendous opportunity to improve; however, leadership lacks intellectual capacity. I cover much of what needs to be explained in the Cons area

    Cons

Implicit bias, unfair hiring and promotion practices, favoritism. Direct Supervisors lack basic management competencies. Operationally the organization is extremely inefficient in managing work flow. There is a huge disparity in the amount of work done by various groups on the Academic Advising team; ie, the college of social behavioral sciences and the undergraduate advisers tend to get hit the most. A perniciously racist organization with leadership does not recognize the importance of plurality. White Privilege prevails here.
