I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast paced work environment, allows for innovation and independent thinking. Up to date with current changes in pharmacy practice Opportunities for management positions if you're up for the challenge.

    Cons

Lack of help during the busy times of the year, customer service becomes very demanding and support staff can be difficult to work with.

    Advice to Management

Give incentive to support staff to encourage them to stay with the company so they don't leave for an independent or competitor after they've been trained.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at Walgreens as a tech trainee has been an excellent experience. The fellow technicians around me are so educated on the entire pharmacy process, and great at teaching beginners and noting issues descriptively making explaining issues to customers an easier experience.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the customers are a huge downside to this job no matter how good your pharmacy is at the rotation, there are laws and regulations to adhere to, we can’t just slap a sticker on a bottle and give you your medication. However if you can give me a little bit we will happily get it done for you in a timely manner. If the customer doesn’t have their insurance card and we can not find it through our system or on another family members profile, we cannot bill it, if it was that easy our jobs would be less frustrating and we wish we could, we hate wasting time and making people wait longer than they should.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on the pharmacy, it never hurts to clear out a line and give your techs a break.

I worked at Walgreens full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really great benefits, so much room to advance if you really commit to it, top performers are acknowledged by performance not seniority.

    Cons

The company was trying to redefine its leadership practices through frontier and LEAP. Those who had worked for the company prior to it going global resisted this. This cause hostility between the company's goals and daily store operations-was not always enjoyable. Horrible work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Truly be open to various leadership styles

I worked at Walgreens full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very energetic work environment in a highly reputable company. Ability to take pride in a Chicago based leader in health and pharmacy.

    Cons

The work culture has changed significantly within the past 5 to 7 years. Loyalty between company and employee has diminished greatly. The relationship has eroded even further since the merger with Boots UK. Too many re-orgs are taking place that force employees out of the company especially those that have been with the company for a very long time.

    Advice to Management

Place a greater emphasis on long-term employee relations. The company presently depicts an attitude where long term employees are seen in a negative light of not having the ability to think outside the box.
