I have been working at Walgreens full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only positive thing I can really say about this experience is that they have been willing to change my schedule around to my liking with little fuss.

    Cons

It's hard to take any company that pays just above minimum wage seriously when you're working full time and are overqualified at hiring, especially when they put you through hours of propaganda 'training' about how valued and respected you are as part of the team. If you go to some typical fast food joint you don't expect top tier service, its to be expected that an entire staff of people being paid virtual slave wages aren't going to care about the final product beyond the bare minimum of what is acceptable; the problem is that Walgreens expects top notch work ethic and service from it's employees but basically pays the same. When I speak to hard working employees that have been at the store for multiple years making a dollar more than me I can't help but wonder how this company retains its staff at all. I certainly don't feel valued and I certainly don't feel like they care if I "live well"

I applied as a pharmacy tech, fully licensed and certified, and was offered this position under the pretense that a tech position would open up to me in short order. They forgot to mention that there were 2 people in front of me who had already been waiting 6+ months for an opening. I took the job out of convenience of location under the assumption that it was a short step into a higher salary where I could get some experience in the pharmacy before I take the leap into PharmD. That doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon and they knew that full well when they tricked me into taking this position. I can't say I'll be sticking around long as any potential offer elsewhere will see me leaving in short order.

    Advice to Management

I don't have anything against the management as people personality wise or based on their actions post hire, but I certainly have no respect or loyalty toward people that lied to me so they could trick me into being a glorified cashier.

I worked at Walgreens (Less than a year)

    Pros

15% discount on merchandise, and flexible hours. Company is growing at a fast pace. Management is always on the lookout to help you grow in the company.

    Cons

I don't see any problems with this company. There are visits from district supervisors constantly, but that's good because they help you seek ways to grow in the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue to enforce daily and monthly quotas.

I worked at Walgreens (More than 3 years)

    Pros

On-the-job training, flexible scheduling, friendly crew

    Cons

Management plays favoritism, open door policy was a joke, management scapegoated employees, company claims to protect employee's interests is all performance as the mgr reported against (with overwhelming evidence) managed to walk free without punishment.

    Advice to Management

Be actual mangers! Stop abusing your mgr powers and blame your employees!

    Pros

Well respected brand in the industry. There is always a lot of work to do and so you'll never be bored

    Cons

Company doesn't really value employees as much as they say they do.
Recent financial performance has been mediocre and the outlook for brick and mortar retail isn't bright.

    Advice to Management

Hire and retain your best employees.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It really is a pretty decent company, most of the time it comes down to the district that you are in.

    Cons

Hours get cut seasonally, of course. But depending on your district they might get cut an entire full time person's worth of hours in the course of a week, without much warning.

    Advice to Management

Give your stores/employees a better notice of when hours will be cut. The pharmacy is the stores biggest revenue, yet most stores have a budget just under what is needed to function at minimum.
