I worked at Walgreens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work life balance was great vs other retailers. Minimum weekends. Consistency in expectations of knowing what each day was going to bring.

    Cons

Change and devaluation of the store manager role through restructuring. Losing the entrepreneur spirit to shift to a stale same store approach.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget the entrepreneurial spirit that made it worth while.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    there are none to report

    Cons

the structure of Walgreens has changed. They are putting more pressure on long term employee 10+ so they can leave or get fired. Then they put an unexperience person in their place that make a 3rd of what they use to make. I used to live, breath and eat Walgreens.

    Advice to Management

what keep Walgreens on top was the dedicated employee that customer idenified with. So quit trying to fiqure out why the these very people are quiting. You stop caring.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

ASM's are now Hourly so we don't work 80 hours and paid for 44 So we only work 44 hours a week now and paid 4 hours OT which comes to $37.66x4hours a week=16 hours OT per month. So thats alot better. Theres always room for growth "if you know the right people"

    Cons

Very political, you can know the job in and out, meet every requirement to get promoted pass your PTCB -board of pharmacy technician certification and get a great performance evaluation and you have to watch others with less time and experience get promoted over you! And they expect you to remain optimistic motivated and engaged with a smile!

    Advice to Management

Better employee retention! Take care of your senior employees, Give credit where credit is due, Store Managers again hold double standards they may turn a blind eye for one but pick on others for same issues they let slide with others! If your liked than your good to go if not you can build a new walgreens store with your bare hands and by yourself or even with a team that you delegated and followed up with and held accountable and gave constructive feedback and corrective criticism and you and your team built it beautifully but would be good enough they would find something wrong even if they thought it looked good they would pick on something because the manager doesmt like you! Favoritism at its best!

    They treat their employees well.
A lot of room for career advancement.
    Great benefits.
    Team atmosphere.
    Challenging.
Management receives a lot of training.

    Cons

The retail schedule is hectic, you work most weekends.
A lot to balance from corporate.
Dealing with customers can be difficult for some.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary, great coworkers, good place to learn management skills if you have a good store manager. Possible rite aid merger in the future

    Cons

Constant cutting of hours, bare bones crew, cutting positions to help the stock price, which is all that matters to corporate. Promotion is about politics and not job performance.

    Advice to Management

Since the boots merger it is not the same company for reasons stated above. Corporate greed, not caring about employees. I could write a book.

I worked at Walgreens full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to build a team of your own through hiring, training and performance managing.

    Cons

District Manager can either help you succeed or ruin your career, depending on their personal professional ambitions.

    Advice to Management

Listen to Managers and team members when they say there is stress in the workplace. Do not shrug it off as complaining and or inability to change. Each store is different and city stores and rural locations need to be treated differently, because they are different.. DPRs are out of touch with outpost stores, period. Rely solely on DM opinion, which oftentimes is flat out wrong.

I worked at Walgreens full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed coaching employees and creating a fun, friendly work environment. Creativity and merchandising skills were often rewarded by senior management, with just a simple "Thank you".

    Cons

Heavy involvment and tight restrictions from corporate did not allow for free flowing ideas. Promotion's were a time consuming challenge, as the right people for the job were overlooked, in favor of seniority.
