    Pros

The people working there are always kind and helpful and willing to go the extra mile. The supervisors are supportive.

    Cons

There are few full-time positions. After working there for five years as faculty, I have not had an opportunity for full-time work.

    Advice to Management

Faculty would show more buy-in, participation in professional development and service on committees, if there were more full-time positions.

    Pros

There are many hardworking people working at WWCC.

There are also several professional development opportunities at the college for faculty and staff.

    Cons

The college could do a better job ensuring that its employees are culturally competent. The training everyone is required to do doesn’t seem to work in that aspect.

    Advice to Management

A good first step would be striving for diversity in all offices and training staff to be culturally competent.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Great IT support for remote work; attentive, motivated students willing to learn and participate no matter the in-the-cloud-type classroom. Support for new ideas and advancing instructor knowledge of online or mixed venue class presentations.Opportunity for independence in designing instruction within rubrics.

    Cons

Judgmental staff members scattered throughout an other wise positive process. Easy to miscommunicate between administrators and online instructors who are not regularly in the head office.

    Advice to Management

Hire more instructors with permanent part-time to fulltime status that they might better avail themselves of a sense of belonging and benefits.

I worked at Walla Walla Community College part-time

    Pros

They will work around your clas schedule and they understand that you will not know everything right away and will train you on any and every thing you need to know with what you will be working on and with.

    Cons

You will never have your own spot or personal space and will have things constantly moving around and taken from your desk, so anything you are worried about you should either take with you or lock up somewhere.

    Advice to Management

Make more time to include all employees and realize that at times you make it feel like you play favorites and leave people out and some are treated like family where others are treated like strange visitors.

  10. "The joys of working in the Computer Lab."

I worked at Walla Walla Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was lots of downtime in the lab, allowing you to work on homework during work without any repercussions. The supervisor was supportive of your growth and understanding when you couldn't make it in to work due to illness, even to the point that she helped the employees set up a support system so that trading and filling shifts went smoothly. The best pro of the job was when I was successfully able to assist a student with their homework or troubleshooting a device and was given the opportunity to teach them how to help themselves in the future.

    Cons

The downsides of working in the computer lab was that you were expected by students to know every bit of software and online site that pertained to the college courses. Also, having only one individual on shift in any given lab made it so you were at mercy of when your relief showed up (or even when individuals left early from their shift) and how they logged their hours.

    Advice to Management

My only advice that I would share with management is to keep the workers on track with their schedule so it doesn't mess their shift relief or tardy record up and to ensure a email or forum of some sort to keep the computer lab employees better informed on computer or internet malfunctions so they can understand and relay information that students are having.
