I have been working at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Walmart is a great place to work and get experience if you are a patient person, I have worked in some of the departments and gained some experience. Good co-managers,Assistant managers and Store manager at the location i work.

    Cons

some co-workers are terrible, but a dertermained person only needs to ignore such and think of how to grow and climb up the ladder.

    Advice to Management

Management should watch out for departmental managers who treat good workers badly.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people that worked in my department were friendly. The customers, for the most part, were approachable and nice. I liked the managers of the consumable departments were cool and were willing to listen to your concerns. And there were opportunities for promotions for the better associates.

    Cons

Management, in general, expected too much from employees. They expect you to wait on customers, stock several pallets of freight, do counts on the shelves, pick and bin freight from the stock room, and ring on the registers all at the same time and oftentimes with only one person in the department. And each manager would tell you to do something different and wouldn't communicate with each other. And some managers would play favorites and not hold all the associates to th3 same standards.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate with each other, schedule people so you have enough people to get things done, and stop talking down to associates.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Able to learn and be involved with the complete cross-section of operations management as well as learn the well tuned proprietary systems that are in place. Management has full access to the store P&L reports to be able to see what is happening, what works, and what doesn't. Learned a lot about managing operations, employees, and people.

    Cons

No work-life balance. Managers are expected to work long hours, perform associate work duties when people don't come to work (unload trucks, etc). Salary is low for amount of hours required to work. Health benefits were horrible. High stress dealing with customer issues as well as employee problems, etc. High burnout rate.
