I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Quarterly bonuses based on sales, costs, and overall store performance. Good healthcare benefits. Competitive pay within retail industry.

    Cons

Tedious work, high turnover, indifferent management and coworkers, negative attitudes, low pay.

    Advice to Management

Place more emphasis on taking care of your associates. Retail is a customer driven industry, but if you make your employees come first, with better pay and better opportunities, staff morale increases, thus increasing individual performances. In other words, when an individual feels their company cares, they try harder.

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The start out pay is pretty well paid, and most of the people are great to work with. And there is never a dull moment.

    Cons

It’s not the easiest place to move up in chain of command. And I think the discount for employees should be more then just 10%.

    Advice to Management

    Give people a chance.

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They are always hiring. Pay is a little better than minimum wage. Flexible schedules.

    Cons

Upper management is absolutely clueless. They don't value good workers, and reward the ones they don't like with better jobs or departments. The don't care if you have a doctors note for rare absences, you will still be coached (wrote up). The will work you as many hours as they can, for 9-10 days in a row and then have you in their books as part time. That way they owe you no benefits. They under staff and then...

    Advice to Management

Stop making the employees pay for your under staffing mistakes. You shouldn't make people shave off overtime, if you've promised them overtime.

Former Employee - Apparel Sales Associate in Concord, NC

I worked at Walmart part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Constant moving around, plenty to do, easy to get help from managers (most of the time)

    Cons

Coworkers always fighting and gossiping about one another. On particularly busy days, management is difficult to get a hold of, which is a problem when you have an angry customer on the phone who wants to speak with a manager.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking to your employees like they are stupid.

    I worked at Walmart full-time

    Pros

The opportunities for advancement are there.

    Cons

Most importantly, if you refuse to click with the right group and cultures and decide not to spend personal time together making friends, doesn't matter that will destroy your career not allowing you to rise like cream of a crop!

    Advice to Management

To each their own experience. I see great opportunity, who's answering, herding, prowling, feeding?
