I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

If you do your job management is pretty laid back.

It's Walmart so the employees aren't always the most helpful.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The job is good and you can establish great and lasting relationships with customers and co-workers.

    Cons

Walmart does not value good employees. They work you to the bone and do not reward you for it. The management stays true to the company over everything and will throw you under to save themselves at any given moment.

    Advice to Management

Be more compassionate and understanding, and realize that company policy is great but when life happens as it does daily, take that into consideration before you act. Also it is not the responsibility of the group d level.employees to pad the pockets of those above us.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Corporate plans work great if the individual store complies

    Cons

If your management is terrible they'll decide that it's more important to only push when regional or market management is coming

I have been working at Walmart part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Higher than average minimum wage, flexible hours for all situations, easy access to food so you don’t have to leave on lunch.

    Cons

Management absolutely disrespectful, don’t appreciate hard work, don’t give opportunities fairly, play favorites.

    Advice to Management

Recognize hard work, appreciate your associates, make them feel like they are making a difference and they will be more willing to continue hard work. When someone isn’t performing well, pull them aside and ask if something’s wrong or give advice to help, don’t always just assume we’re not doing it because we just don’t want to. Be more considerate. Communication is key.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Customer service oriented and the pay was raised to a living wage.

    Cons

There is no paid holidays and management is hard to get a hold of if a customer wants to talk to one.

    Advice to Management

Respond in a timely manner for any customer interactions. If an employee needs help, find them help. There is no excuse for customers to have to stand in line for more than 5 minutes. Cashiers need to be trained to get the customers scaned and bagged quickly without sacrificing customer service. Credit card apps are important, but should not be more important than engaging in real conversation. A customer should not have to be badgered with it every time. It really angers the customer.

    Pros

    Decent pay
    Awesome coworkers and customers
    Good benefits if fulltime
    Perfect for teens
    Great for networking

    Cons

Have been working for this company for 2 years and still not fulltime nor eligible for medical insurance
    Favoritism
    Hours are inconsistent
New attendance policy is unfair nor do they accept doctors' notes
Hard to move up even with good work ethic
    Management is unorganized
Policies and procedures are forever changing
Can be on feet for 9-10 hrs a day
    Computer generated scheduling is terrible
Too many employees during slow days, not enough employees on busy days
    Time drags most days
    High turnover rate

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees. Treat us like people, not herds of animals that are insignificant and expendable.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady job, most everyone I work with are awesome people

    Cons

Should pay holiday pay (Wal-Mart doesn't even give Assoc's x-mas cards) associates are the backbone of the business if you don't have associates in the stores you don't have stores , if you don't have stores you don't have customers,if you don't have customers you you don't have money coming in, if no money,no business =NO MULTI BILLION $ COMPANY.....a little appreciation goes a long way. After all Wal-Mart can afford it.....just saying.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and respect the people you work with on a daily basis just because you're higher up on the chain of command doesn't mean you can be a jerk!!!!
