I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great level of technology and many resources and benefits that appeal to most people. Team focused success and rewards. Provided career advancement until my position was restructured. 20% of the leadership above me, were amazing individuals that helped me succeed, provided me with tools for my success and served as amazing members of my professional network, and still do.

    Cons

Hours of work can be overwhelming. Company is in a downsizing mode right now and forcing out much of its long-term talent with restructuring and layoffs. They did not react to other entities taking all of the ecommerce market share, now they are playing catchup to compete with the likes of Amazon. It is embarrassing how far behind the company is and how they are cutting out payroll to adjust for the future. 80% of the leadership above me, were not suited for their titles, lacking people skills and leadership skills, also had little understanding of the dynamics of basic business dealings.

    Advice to Management

I would advise that you repurpose your long-term talent, rather than sever it. As a corporation, they are tending to steer away from the "Sam Walton" culture, in favor of driving a higher bottom line. Re-focus on talent recognition and development.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Walmart is a great place to build work history and learn to work under pressure.

    Cons

There isn't enough staffing or hours in the day to complete all your tasks and have a successful department. No matter how hard you try upper management will always find something wrong and there aren't really any rewards for hard work or a job well done.

    Advice to Management

Reward your associates for their hard work and you will have more associates that actually work hard.

    Pros

Fast opportunity to move up in the company if ample effort is put in. Compensation is satisfactory compared to other retailers

    Cons

Work life balance is stressful for some positions. Once a salaried member of management, progression is hard to follow through with.

    Advice to Management

Pick the best candidates for positions. Too many times have I seen the wrong choice get the position and it leads to poor business decisions

The opportunity for growth is always there of course you have to work your way up. The discount comes in handy. The stock purchase plan is a very good benefit as well.

It is an entry level job, you do have to work your way up in order to get more pay.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is an easy job for the most part you spend most of the night crazy busy stocking freight and making the store look pretty. They offer really good benefits like a 401k, stock purchase plans, health, dental, and life insurance. They even give you paid time off & you get bonuses if your store is doing well.

    Cons

There seems to be a lack of consideration for employees from management. Not a lot of communication/

    Advice to Management

The managers at my store need to know that communication is an important part of the job. Making a speech at the begining of a shift is not communicating nor is it always effective. Being a good listener is also important. By listening to your crew in an effective way also tells your reps. they are also important and valued.
