I worked at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great employees discount, health insurance. You get to know what's going on sale and how vast or limited the current inventory is.

    Cons

Walmart doesn't pay a living wage to it's retail employees! It can be problematic trying to get enough hours to be considered full-time employees.

I worked at Walmart (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Global company. Starting wages are better than a few years ago. Ten percent discount is useful. Open door policy.

    Cons

Overworked - underpaid. If you have an advanced degree it isn't very useful at the local level. Although the store was understaffed you are still pushed and coached when all the freight isn't stocked. High turnover with department managers. Recognition for good work isn't readily given - even when a customer goes out of their way to inform management of when an associate was very helpful.

    Advice to Management

Open door policy is a joke. Associates often feel that their voice isn't heard. Promote employees who can actually do the job. Hire department managers who actually care about people.
