I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, holiday pay, quarterly profit share bonus, 401k, stock purchasing, good stepping stone in gaining retail experience

    Cons

Short-staffed, inconsistency and a lack of communication between managers, "too many chiefs, and not enough Indians", not allowing the department managers to do their jobs and this includes ordering more freight than necessary

    Advice to Management

Stop "micro-managing", everybody needs to be on the same page, appreciate the associates that work hard and acknowledge that they do so

    Pros

Ability to set days off in stone, Open Door Policy "Ability to openly voice concerns of other associates, Management, and Policy with management without worry of rebuttal, Job is easy IF you follow policy.

    Cons

Management can be sluggish to communicate procedural changes to associates, points system is a bit heartless at times, especially when your prone to get sick, or live away from family members that are elderly or get sick often, Supervisors are chosen on merits of experience rather than maturity at times causing a myriad of conflicts depending on the situations your faced with, Deadlines are sharp and punishment is sometimes extreme, to downright disheartening compared to the actual offense.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes we as a family have to understand that people make mistakes, and sometimes those individuals need more of a chance to attain an understanding to an ever changing workplace like what we are faced with daily.

    Pros

They have a good benefits program, health insurance, 401k, and if your store makes any money you get a profit share.

    Cons

Long hours, it's hard to get breaks on time (If your name is at the end of the alphabet), what they tell you about procedures changes constantly, and if you aren't a floor employee you don't get any heads up on changes, the management doesn't know policy (partly because it changes constantly), there is often no support from management, it takes a minimum of a month before to request days off and at this wal-mart it takes a minimum of two months because it is so understaffed, and say good bye to ALL major holidays.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the Front End. They need to have you there! It doesn't work to say that the customer comes first and then complain that the front end supervisors aren't doing their job when a customer wants to talk to you
