I worked at Walmart (Less than a year)

    Pros

    40 hours of work
can be fun if you find good people to spend time with
people typically don't micromanage you and let you do your work

    Cons

managers are usually not very friendly
if you do good work and finish quickly, they'll just give you more work so there is no incentive to work well

    Advice to Management

have some sort of better incentive system to encourage your employees to good work
don't look down and mistrust the young people

    Pros

No pros, management is too above the employees to help with lines when they only allow minumum registers.

    Cons

Flexibility to go to other departments, anyone can be a manager, benifits but not really worth getting.

    I worked at Walmart part-time

    Pros

I think one of the pros I can for sure say is the pay. The yearly raises are generous along with the review. The other pro is the ability to climb up the management ladder. They give a lot of opportunities to move up.

    Cons

I think the biggest problem I found in the company was communication, point system, and lack of understanding. If ran into an issue during my work hours and needed an answer either management didn't know or gave me all different answers. The point system was very unforgiving and if you personal problem or illness it was easy to get in trouble and they base all of their ideas of us on a point system that is too harsh. And lastly upper management didn't have much empathy no matter the situation. Personally I had gotten a stomach flu over the weekend and missed two days of work. I gotten in trouble with points because of it. The manager that talked with me suggested I should have just come in and be miserable. That was my worst experience with them.

    Advice to Management

As conveyed in my cons section, the biggest things that need to recognized is communication with each other and to remember to be open minded with your employees.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Possibility of bonuses
Often a great set of co-workers

    Cons

    Management isn't supportive at all
Being a CSM is very high stress from all angles and is completely unappreciated
Being there a long time nets few benefits

    Advice to Management

Be available to take care of associate needs. Too frequently management is willing to blow of an associate needing help, despite the vast majority of the time it being for a customer, so they actually blow of a customer. Which means the associate takes the brunt of the anger, which the manager then vents toward the associate when they do show up. Too much disrespect for the associate.

    Pros

Good hours if you are a night owl and it's a one stop shop. You can get everything you need all in one place if you have too.

    Cons

Everything else. What can I say, it generally sucks.

    Advice to Management

Instead of sticking people in front of a computer for 5 hours a day for a week and calling it training, how about actually training people. I have been here almost a month and I still don't know my way around everything yet and I get pretty much blamed for it, as if I'm being slow on purpose. Every time I come to work, it's the same thing, someone constantly telling me to hurry up and finish, except I have to take time to find everything because I don't know where all the products are located yet. They just sort of threw me out there and that was it. I'm over this actually. I really not seeing the benefits of working here, and I'm not too fond of two of the managers.
