  3. "I wouldn't put anyone in this predicament"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Department Manager- Walmart in Laurel, MD

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You build a relationship and almost a family with your direct Co workers.

    Cons

Your vacation and holiday hours are put into one category so you choose between going on a vacation or paying yourself for a holiday. Every time the company does something good, they do 10 bad things. Too large of a work load for just 8 hours. Upper management expects you to get everything done in one day. There's even time when they say "I don't know how it's gonna get done but just make it happen." They cut hours...

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good place to START don't get STUCK. One good thing is it is easy to move up in the company but there's always a price to pay with that as well

    Cons

Nasty management bad attitude employees rude "always right" customers...not really an professional establishment the hours are all over the place. You never get to spend time with family even on holidays...very money hungry company that doesn't really care for employees. The pay is terrible even with the "raise" $10 is impossible to live off of.

    Advice to Management

Management needs better trading on how to communicate with people instead of talking down on people

I worked at Walmart full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to move up if you work hard. I worked for a summer as a cashier and they wanted to move me to customer service manager within those 3 months. If i had stayed i could probably be higher up now. Fast paced. Most associates are friendly.

    Cons

pay isn't the best, customers are rude sometimes. Long hours for the low compensation. You could often be asked to do jobs that aren't in your job description.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful of when people need breaks.

    I worked at Walmart

    Pros

Good Salary. Friendly Co-Workers. Flexible Hours. Hour lunch breaks. 2 Paid 15 minute breaks. Safety is taken VERY seriously. Fun to work there.

    Cons

Managers have no sense of respect and are very favoritism to some employees. They make very poor and confusing decisions. If working up front(experienced or not), CSM will leave you there by yourself for a long time(30 minutes) with no way to contact them about a problem. A lot of cashiers are called in on the WRONG days. You can't fill shelves up with the proper item because it's been filled up with another item....

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

The company has very friendly associates and cashiers who are willing to help out wherever possible. The same however cannot be said for the managers and other leaders.

    Cons

Interview process was unprofessional. Other people were in the room while you were being questioned. Supervisors don't communicate among themselves and cause confusion among the rank and file. No respect shown towards hourly workers. The "training" program is a joke. You are sent out on the floor and the supervisors who are supposed to train you either don't have time or don't care enough to do it. You have to accomplish...

    Advice to Management

This company needs to get back to basics, and it needs to start right from the top echelons. Supervisors are in serious need of some supervisory/leadership training and this company which is VERY rich needs to pay its employees a decent living wage. Most associates have to work another job to make ends meet, or you have to have some other source of income to compensate the the very low pay. Otherwise employees end up...
