I worked at Walmart as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work is not incredibly hard, and personally, I had a great team to work with. I felt good going home tired everyday because I knew I was working for my money.

    Cons

It was only a seasonal position, I would have enjoyed staying with Wal Mart.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

I worked at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Increased starting pay, some decent benefits, accommodate special needs

    Cons

Couldn’t afford the medical, schedule was not consistent, employees there for 5+ years not considered for promotion, a few managers seemed to talk down to employees, call-out policy works against average, otherwise healthy, employees

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on managers and how they interact with employees, or find a way for employees to voice their concerns, appreciate ALL employees, esp those that have lasted more than a few years, more benefits, more chance for advancement for everyone, not just favorites

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I liked my job iv worked with nice people, I was a department manager

    Cons

When you want to transfer they don't help. I moved to a new state and wanted to transfer to the Wal-Mart in my new state that I moved to and got no help, so I never transfer, so I lost everything

    Advice to Management

Could help when someone wants to stay with the company and wants to transfer

I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Loads of options are available, from employee stock purchasing, to tuition assistance for higher education. Higher preference for hiring within the company, with many career fields to choose from.

    Cons

There aren't any more cons as with any other company. Each store is both independent and yet universally controlled which can someone lead to communication problems. But, again, that's with most major companies.

    Advice to Management

Invest further in co-op programs for those seeking higher education, to allow for a higher gain in experience, along with the education.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

good benefits, 401k, great customers, health insurance, yearly raises, profit sharing checks every 3 months based on sales. Paid vacation and sick days,.

    Cons

Never enough help, upper management needs to work on respecting every individual who works for them, not just their favorites. Too many bosses telling you to do something other than what the last boss said and becoming aggitated with the help when the job is not completed due to constanly being redirected,

    Advice to Management

communicate with each other and figure out what the priority of the day is.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Advancement opportunities
    401k matching
    stock purchase plan

If you work your butt off hourly, your given the opportunity to advance, which allows you to easily increase your pay.

    Cons

There are set processes for how to get things down, such as Inventory Management, unloading, stocking, and who should be doing what. All these processes have a computer element to them, like how much time it should take or if an item should come out of the backroom. The market manager, store manager, and everyone else in between tells you to do things different then the way home office tells you to do it, and wonders why things don't get done right, or on time.

When your salary they give you the bare minimum of people, change the schedules you made, then yell at you because everything did not get done and make you work more. (We were doing 70+ hours a week)

    Advice to Management

Hire enough hourly associates to get things done.
Allow your salaried employees to their jobs, such as training and dealing with associate issues. (Hard to do when your expected to stock 5 departments a night)
Follow the processes from home office.
Stop overworking your good employees and allow us (ASMs) to do something about the bad ones.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is plenty of room for advancement, limited only by your own interests and abilities. Also, there are many postions available if you want to try something different from time to time, but staywith the same company.

    Cons

It is retail, with all of the drawbacks that entails.

    Advice to Management

Work at training and retaining your staff at the hourly level. They are your future managers, and will pass on that same dedication and effort if you let them.
