I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It built me as far as being patient, staying calm and productive under pressure yet executing tasks with sense of urgency

    Cons

Management. Retaliation and favoritism is seen.. very very discouraging

    Advice to Management

Lead by example... no shortcuts and train yourself before you try and train a hopeful associate that is eager and willing to advance their Walmart career. Always stay professional.. do not try and make friends with everybody. Lead by example

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good salaries, good benefits, schedule flexibility with enough pre notification as a manager, tons of training material, many opportunities for development.

    Cons

Not enough hands on or actual training, favoritism in many stores, deviations from sop, policies when it benefits, short notice on updates and changes.

    Advice to Management

Treat every associate the same, teach and train as much as you can, be a subject matter expert.

    Pros

At first the hours are nice and consistent lots of help

    Cons

Management slowly starts to not care anymore and ignore the employees under them

    Advice to Management

Be as open and helpful to employees as the store manager is

I worked at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wal-Mart employees for the most part band together as a team and are helpful and courteous to customers even when faced with ridiculous demands. Management is easily approachable. Our store would have lots of team-building events, such as celebrating birthdays, holidays, and sales contests. If you want to advance in Walmart you certainly can do it, but the hours can be brutal.

    Cons

Office facilities for cash counting and deposit verification are tiny and not well-ventilated. I got headaches from the rising temperatures. At times my closed office would reach 80 degrees from the heat of the large recycler cash machine. Also, customer demands can be ridiculous. Associates have to grin and bear it.

    Advice to Management

Be aggressive in weeding out the deadwood employees. Many are slackers which makes it difficult for the real workers to give you their best.

    I worked at Walmart full-time

    Pros

Benefits are offered and room for advancement.

    Cons

Micromanaging is a big thing for all managers. This doesn't happen to just one store, it happens everywhere because that is what they're trained to do. A few employees have gotten injured multiple times on the job because they work you to the bone and no appreciation from any upper management. Black friday is the worst day of your life. No time with your family for the holidays and 10% discount is offered (total). Horrible experience and horrible company to work for.

    Advice to Management

Don't ever use the phrase, "if you don't do it, then someone on the street will..."

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Non/ I learned what i'm still able to do.

    Cons

Unvaried duties;with no training, varied schedules; without warning or communication, nor compensation for work done, no help in lifting loads over 70 Lbs, ,no help in training for JOB? .
No management of other employees detected. Non responsive to guest needs when pressured .Poor to non employee relations. And a general disregard for training properly..Cutting hours due to sales results or profit margins; Due that week. Poor model of a Corporate Mega Group.

    Advice to Management

Get The Clue.Great for shareholders, Otherwise, you fail to reward employees fairly on their own abilities. Thus I will not Buy from a Walmart , While on earth.

I worked at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Coworkers
    Family-like environment
Great assistant managers (except there will always be one that looks like they'll rip your head off if you offend them or get in their way, for the Covina store that role was played by Candelin)

    Cons

    Bad upper management
Never enough employees on the job, they need to figure out their scheduling
Covina store related - One of the co-managers has no sense of personal space, you'll figure out who when you get the job

    Advice to Management

Make sure you don't give too many people the same day off

I have been working at Walmart part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The previous management used to listen to the associates so the store was doing good and the customers were happy too to come back again and again.

    Cons

They are cutting hours all across the stores, never schedule enough cashiers and it gets really bad during the peak hours, the front always has to take the heat from the customers But the new management favors some "special people" with full-time hours.

    Advice to Management

Listen and help the associates to keep their jobs,
