I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It built me as far as being patient, staying calm and productive under pressure yet executing tasks with sense of urgency

    Cons

Management. Retaliation and favoritism is seen.. very very discouraging

    Advice to Management

Lead by example... no shortcuts and train yourself before you try and train a hopeful associate that is eager and willing to advance their Walmart career. Always stay professional.. do not try and make friends with everybody. Lead by example

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good salaries, good benefits, schedule flexibility with enough pre notification as a manager, tons of training material, many opportunities for development.

    Cons

Not enough hands on or actual training, favoritism in many stores, deviations from sop, policies when it benefits, short notice on updates and changes.

    Advice to Management

Treat every associate the same, teach and train as much as you can, be a subject matter expert.

I worked at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Coworkers
    Family-like environment
Great assistant managers (except there will always be one that looks like they'll rip your head off if you offend them or get in their way, for the Covina store that role was played by Candelin)

    Cons

    Bad upper management
Never enough employees on the job, they need to figure out their scheduling
Covina store related - One of the co-managers has no sense of personal space, you'll figure out who when you get the job

    Advice to Management

Make sure you don't give too many people the same day off

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience and great people to work with. Good entry level job to learn how to run a large volume retail store. Excellent skills to boost your resume and lots of networking opportunities.

    Cons

Long hours and unpredictable schedule= no work/life balance. Constantly expected to do more and take on additional responsibility with less resources and staff. Constant turnover with associates and management.

    Advice to Management

Value your people more, it would help with the turnover problem. Don't threaten people's jobs to motivate them to work harder. There are better ways to get your team engaged.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Typical Sales job. A lot of chaos at first while you learn the ropes but once you do you barely have to think about it. Good people to work with for the most part though

    Cons

You will get cussed out by customers. A lot. Can't give them the price they think is right and they will feel entitled to lecture you. No commissions doesn't help either. Still, it could be far worse.

    Advice to Management

Have more organized practical training for new hires after the initial computer simulations instead of just having the individual department managers do it in whatever order or priority they think is best.
