    Pros

If you have no qualifications and want to promote its a great place to work. Its the land of "opportunity" meaning you don't really need to use your head when you do anything. There is a book for everything.

    Cons

Upper management lacks qualifications to be in Loss Prevention and most of them have little or no experience in it. There is always legal boundaries that make it hard to do your job. They went to a no handcuff policy in July of 2010 which made the job really unsafe. The company is "by the book" and does not allow managers to manage. when I was in the Orange county area my MAPM (market asset Protection manager) was a previous co-manager in a store which does nothing with LP. Then they promoted her to a regional within three years somehow. She never backed her employees and had no ability to develop them.

    Advice to Management

Try to back your employees and understand you don't know everything. Use your employees as a resource and be humble. Loss Prevention is a stressful position and being by the book with no discretion is not the way to go.

    Pros

Co-workers are very nice, opportunities for advancement if you want a career in retail, job security.

    Cons

Corporate changes have made it nearly impossible to do a job well. Expected to do 5 people's jobs for one person. Rarely any praise given. The managers are so stressed with everything they have to do that customers and employees are often neglected, leading to not being able to preform job duties to the fullest extent. Schedule's not given when they say they're going to. Unreasonable demands on employees. Low emplyee morale. Company has been known to take out life insurance policies on employees without their knowledge and when deceased, the company gets the full check with none to the family. Full time hours rarely happen unless you work at night or are a manager. Negligent, Fires people if they have a worker's comp case. Constant ridiculous lines because of a lack of cashier's. the company won't hire more because it will diminish profit.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the way it was when Sam Walton was alive. Be true to your word that customer service is number one, not the sales.

    Pros

Job security, most customers are friendly and respectful, people are more than co-workers, as they become friends / family

    Cons

Politics within workplace, certain bosses can be disconcering and disrespectful to associates, undefined clarity within the policies explained by management

    Advice to Management

Sam Walton's representation, "Respect for the individual," suffers within certain areas and management. Please have management improve on that.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved working with my colleagues. 10% discount was also good, along with employee discounts at other companies.

    Cons

If you're not a manager, or over-night associate, you don't get full time hours or benefits. At any given time, you're expected to do your job x 2 or 3 people's, due to purposeful understaffing to increase store profit. i.e. I was instructed one night to run Electronics, Photo, and Connection Center by myself for 4 hours. Time off requested months in advance doesn't get approved. (Not family oriented, like they say.) Sexual harrassment allowed. Illegal practices...the list goes on and on.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the way google runs their company. Make Walmart a place where people actually enjoy working there, and not regret going to work everyday. After all, Walmart does employ a large percentage of Americans, and more people would actually shop there, if they enjoyed the experience, not just the low prices. Put Sam Waltons ideas back to use, and sell more products that are actually MADE in America. Help the economy Walmart! Stop destroying it.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a paying job, although they don't pay much.

    Cons

Little to no communication between members of management. If one decides they don't like you, it seems like they almost try to make your experience there miserable. I keep getting screwed out of breaks somehow or another. Management pretends like they care by staging these "listen to ten" meetings, though it's quite evident that they don't bother to listen to the ten employees they bring in for each meeting.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees instead of just pretending to care. Communicate better with each other. Oh and when an employee tells you they can't work certain hours, maybe take that into consideration when making the schedules...?

I worked at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not very much if anything at all.

    Cons

too many managers to answer to. One will tell you to take a break because it's hot outside, I was a cart attendant, then the other would threaten to fire you because you were taking a break. It was less than a minute that I was taking a break.

    Advice to Management

One manager to a department and pay the employees more. Trust me, they will work harder if they are being paid more.
