I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good medical benefits, quarterly bonus if the store meets guidelines. Advancement opportunities.

    Cons

Some upper management can be hard to work with. Sometimes expecting more than what is possible.

    Advice to Management

Consider different roles in certain areas of the store supervisor roles in asset protection outside of APM Different roles in the backroom. And remember when staffing stores you need a complete workforce when the standards are set very high on amount of work needing to be done.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Pay is a couple dollars above minimum wage, 10% discount, Meet friendly coworkers and customers, everyone gets their lunches and breaks on time, flexible scheduling, plenty of opportuniities for advancement,

    Cons

Management will force you to work in other departments, Very boring you're standing in one spot for hours, consistently busy, minors aren't able to work more than 25 hours/wk even if it's summertime, no benefits for part-time workers, don't ask to change departments because they say yes and take forever to get you switched.

    Advice to Management

Interact more with you're workers and don't assign things outside of their job description.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced, busy, entertaining, fun associates and fun co workers. A lot of variety, and you never knew what to expect.

    Cons

Horrible hours, no work life balance. Inventory time was awful. Went from working 50+ hours per week to working 60-70+. No weekends off. Late hours. Not good if you are raising little kids.

    Advice to Management

Give your salaried managers decent time off and a better schedule

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Generally, good people to work with and good people working for you.
-Walmart has increased the pay across the board for everyone.

    Cons

-Change for the sake of change. That is all Walmart does is change processes. I've been with the company 16 months and am not on the 3rd inventory management process.
-Overnights as an Assistant Manager is the worst job in the entire company. Demands are incredible and the Walmart way is to tour in the morning with senior management and get beat up day in and day out.
-Long hours as a salaried manager, sometimes upwards of 15 hours in a day or more.
-"Take care of the customer" means treating every customer with the suspicion that they are trying to steal.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to treat people as people, not numbers. Grow a heart.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Walmart is going back to it's roots and putting our people first. Flexible hours, discount, stock options, matching 401k to 6%, profit sharing, company supplied short term disability and more! Lots of room for career advancement. A new generation is coming in and we care for our people.

    Cons

It is a retailer so that often means weekends and holidays will be worked.

    Advice to Management

Care about your people. If you love and believe in your associates they will want to work with you and for you.

    Pros

Walmart had good schedule flexibility, the job duties were easy to learn and employer provided sufficient support. Fast paced environment helped time move along.

    Cons

The repetitive nature of the work made it difficult to enjoy this job over the long term. Advancement beyond department management takes a long time and does not provide enough reward for the work put in.

    Advice to Management

Hire reliable people, keep them engaged with new responsibilities or opportunities. Give competitive pay and encourage staff to bring new ideas to workplace.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The co workers
    Its a job
Sorry can not think of anything else. Co workers make the job just bearable

    Cons

    Low pay
    Management treats you like crap
    Overworked
    Understaffed
Having to cut time on lunch after youre forced to stay late
    Black friday enough said
    Pointless policies
They don't hire enough people and dont scedual the ones they have enough hours to get stuff done.
    Too many managers
    Unreasonable expectations
Every time minimum wage goes up they demand more work out of you as if obeying the law is doing you a favor.
Management constantly changing your already posted scheduals.

    Advice to Management

Schedual more people, enough to get the job done not just what the budget says you can. Listen to employees. Make the good employees full time. Dont fire anyone until a replacement is hired. Have realistic expectations, if the computer says youre 180 hrs short of labor to complete the nights freight dont demand your crew somehow get it done.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent job for if you didn't go to school / have no management or leadership experience. Have seen people start at the bottom and be an assistant in less than 3 years. start at the bottom and work their way up. Active work. Get to deal with people. Opportunities to help your community and others everywhere and doing so is encouraged. Opportunity to disprove the stereotype about metro walmarts. Opportunity to work as a team.

    Cons

Always more work than you can finish, have to except 80% success sometimes. Either excellent but firm leadership, or toxic and short sited leadership. Many people only out for themselves instead of doing what is right.

    Advice to Management

Don't mirror your bosses behavior or views. Be up front and honest, set the example and let us train your freaking people.
