I worked at Walmart part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Was able to get hired there, okay pay, had 401k and benefits-health, vision to choose from, had flexible hours and employee discount card

    Cons

Got away from holiday pay, had to do pathways and the annual pay raises were low-like 2% of your hourly pay

    Advice to Management

Be more positive and give encouragement

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had a unique job at Walmart that I'll be honest, made me feel special :)

I was on a team that was responsible for fulfilling online customer orders. Everyday we had fulfillment targets and it was always a fun challenge to work as a team to get the job done as quickly as possible. When we completed our main job, we would then have the opportunity to stock shelves, unload trucks or do other things that were needed. For the most part, it was fun work.

One of the big benefits working for Walmart is the opportunity for career advancement. This is somewhat dependent on your education, but what job isn't? While I didn't pursue further employment, I discussed my choices with upper management and if desired, could have continued a career at one of their HQs.

    Cons

While I appreciate how motivated my managers were, sometimes they were insensitive and flat out rude.
Co-workers were not always helpful. Sometimes lacked a team spirit.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees at all times - treat them as equals and value their opinions

I worked at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lunches are crazy long, an eight hour shift having an hour long lunch and two 15 minute breaks is amazing and I admit I was spoiled

    Not too difficult

    Cons

Hours aren't consistent and dealing with people not scheduled to assist the department can be a pain.

Doing the team lift by yourself

Safety hazard grabbing shelving from the back room using a ladder and your will to live another day sometimes.

    Advice to Management

With poor management, the store can really suffer when it shouldn't. Before I left I had an ASM who did such a poor job during our remodeling that it was delayed because of poor communication between him, other managers and the supplies we needed that it was delayed and was a huge pain to employees and customers. I've seen Walmart run smoothly and it definitely can under the right guys.
