I worked at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A paycheck. You'll met a colorful and motley crew of people that have either: (1) been there so long they have become immune to ambition or comfortable with hellish routine; (2) got the job "temporarily" and have somehow found themselves still there after X amount of years; or (3) trying desperately to feed their families. The people you meet are interesting.

    Cons

A corporate culture completely subsumed by profit that views and treats employees as disposable commodities. No health or dental benefits available for at least a YEAR after working there. A paltry 5% employee discount (not available for groceries) after a month of employment. These are supposed to be the perks of the job. Those are the problems with the company. A myriad of other cons come to mind depending on location.

    Advice to Management

I feel for you. Just remember that people are not automatons and try not to tell people to routinely do things you wouldn't do yourself.

I worked at Walmart (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company isn't going anywhere, at least not in the very near future, so you don't have to worry about that. They don't force you to relocate, it can only be done if you agree to it. The pay has just been risen across the board.

    Cons

The company is going through drastic changes that affect both hourly and salaried employees. Some of the changes are positive, such as both wage and salary increases. Some of them are negative, such as scheduling for managers, and it is more difficult to attain full-time status for hourly associates.

    Advice to Management

Most managers seem to be afraid to keep their job, and they are working with that as their motivation. That can only motivate you so much, and not always to do the right thing. Get back to what the company stated out as, a team of merchants who trained for their future.

    Pros

They are flexible with you schedule. And other than that you might be friends with some of your co workers.

    Advice to Management

Treat you employees a bit better. Thank them every now and then. If someone is struggling help them be better don't yell at them.
