I worked at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The number one pro is that you pretty much can get hired if you don't have a gnarly criminal history and aren't a complete degenerate. That is no little thing. A place where you can probably get a job if you are just not too lazy to apply is a very American concept. You can rebuild or start out at this company. It wasn't boring work. Never a lack of stuff to do. It was indoors for the most part. You can move up pretty easily. It's a great place to learn retail. If you can handle Wal-Mart other retail will be pretty easy for ya from a work load stand point. They offered overtime sometimes.

    Cons

I guess the downside of being able to pretty much get hired if you have a pulse is that you really do run into some pretty marginal people at this job. It's definitely an anti-thinking environment. It might be too easy to move up because they have a lot of managers who have zero business managing anything period let alone a high volume business. It's really hard to get time off. It's hard work for little pay.

    Advice to Management

Honestly for as much crap as people talk about Wal-Mart I think their management (higher ups) are pretty dang brilliant. Not middle management. But higher up people. The reason I say that is because obviously the business is huge and everywhere. Something is being done right. Also, I think their status as being a place where pretty much anybody who wants to work can have a job is a very important role to play in the world. You can get hired there and the place isn't shutting down any time soon. I know that quantity over quality isn't an ideal way to do business but, it is a way that works. It does work.
