I worked at Walmart (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The breaks were fantastic -- when you actually got them.
    - Most of people are just like you, so everyone is nice.
    - A lot of room for growth -- you can go from cart pusher to working with stocking to cashier to management.
    - Starting pay was good. 30 cents over minimum wage.

    Cons

    - Management sucks at the store I worked out. They walk around without a clue. You can page them, call them and nothing. Takes sometimes an hour for them to come. Even when a customer is involved. One time, I called out to a manager (like everyone else) and when she came over, she was nasty to both me and the customer. Still works there. It's not about how you do the work. It's about whose butt you suck up to.
    - Raises are seldom.
    - Breaks. You're sometimes skipped over when breaks come around. When I brought it up (after the fifth time in 2 days) I was talked own to. I was told "I have to miss breaks as well. Just part of the job. You gotta be stronger than that hon." The same day, I was locked out of my register for not taking a break. And was thrown under the bus by him.

    Advice to Management

Be careful who you put in charge.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You are constantly learning new things having to do with your department and others in the store which can help for specific situations.

    Cons

Management can be absolutely horrible. No real sense of family/community. Also customers are horrible partially because "It's Walmart" and they can treat the store and its employees anyway they want.

    Advice to Management

You can move up to be a supervisor but the managers sometimes treat you like you're beneath them.
