I have been working at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can make a lot of good friends.
The managers are nice and courteous.
Busy environment that makes time fly.
Good pay and chances for bonuses (that are easily achievable!)
    Fun environment with good music.
Discount card and extra discounts during holidays.
Opportunity to try other departments and climb the ladder in rank.

    Cons

The work/life balance is HORRIBLE. Any changes in your availability and you'll be waiting weeks (if not longer!!)
It seems as if the management could care less about what you need, so long as they are able to use you to their advantage.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your associates want/need.
Find a way to make the work/life balance a little better (I know that it's hard for them as well, but their management of this could be better)

    Pros

It is a job to work.

    Cons

    But you will hate it.

    Advice to Management

Take employee to back room discuss and get full story instead of jumping it conclusions and yelling in front of customers at employee for something another manager did.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Customer service oriented and the pay was raised to a living wage.

    Cons

There is no paid holidays and management is hard to get a hold of if a customer wants to talk to one.

    Advice to Management

Respond in a timely manner for any customer interactions. If an employee needs help, find them help. There is no excuse for customers to have to stand in line for more than 5 minutes. Cashiers need to be trained to get the customers scaned and bagged quickly without sacrificing customer service. Credit card apps are important, but should not be more important than engaging in real conversation. A customer should not have to be badgered with it every time. It really angers the customer.
